Heated mirrors?

Howdy all,

The dealership said my 1999 T4R limited has heated exterior mirrors. Is there a separate switch for these that I'm missing, or is it secretly connected to the rear defrost?

Thanks! Please forgive my newbness, but my runner didn't come with a manual.

I owned my 4Runner for about 2 years before I realized this. I used to wipe them off in the morning with napkins I was stationed in NC at the time so I never really needed them until moving back to Jersey.

Im learning how cool the newer runners are all the time! heated mirriors, the power outlet thing in the rear, i am to jealous of the newer ones bigger cargo compartment. and i bet my runner would of had a hood scoop if they were around in 96! grr. i still love my baby tho.

Bring an old thread back that I found using the search function.

It snowed today so I had to wipe off my mirrors and windows for the first time this season. My parents have an 01 highlander. It's a car not a truck, but I like that it has heated mirrors, wipers and seats. So I was thinking during my drive to work it must not be to hard to modify the 4runner to add the mirrors, wipers and seats from a highlander. So I searched and found this thread.

If I have a 98 limited 4runner do I have heated mirrors? I'll try it on the way home tonight but I would never thought the rear deforst also controlled the mirrors. Do I also have heat wipers? I know forsure I don't have heated seats. Has anyone made these mods before?

Not positive on the mirrors, I think it is standard on the 99 ups, but not sure if it was an option or not on the pre 99's.

As for wipers, and seats, buy a remote start, then the whole truck will be warm by the time you walk outside.

Or wear a coat! Leaving your truck cold and idling isn't going to do it any good.

There should be a little sign on the actual mirror, I know my 03 SR5 doesn't have them. Not sure of my 98 SR5 had them, it was totaled mothers day 2010.

I just tired my defrost and didn't feel any warmth from the mirror so I think it is safe to say it does not have it. plus there is no sign.

Heated wipers kick ass. Most new cars have them our kia has it. They melt all the ice and snow off the blades and keep them from getting wreaked. You also don't have to leave them pointing up, which always temps kids to pull on them.

I let my truck idle every morning but it does not come anywhere close to melting the ice off the wipers.

Heated Windshield Wiper Blade Kit These look like they might be worth looking into. I probably won't do it myself, there's enough stuff on my rig that needs attention that I feel is higher up on the priority list.

It says the element is for repair jobs but I guess you could always wire it up to a swtich spliced into the deforst circuit. The blades look like an easy way to add heat but the ones on the highlander are heated through the arm, not the blade it's self. I was wondering if the arms could be swaped, either way this stuff looks like more of pain in the ass to install then it would be worth.
