heater control , cig light and shifter lights fried

Hi. I made the mistake of lending my 98 4r to a friend who drove it 12,000 miles and caused all sorts of problems. Among other things, I discovered a huge coffee stain spread across the entire right instrument panel.

Now, the lights which illuminate the heater controls, glove box, and the strip next to the shifter (P N R D 1 2) don't turn on when I turn on the power. The cigar lighter doesn't work. The left hand gauge (speedometer etc.) lights work fine. So does the stereo and so does the AC.

Any trouble shooting advice? I feel like a coffee stain wouldn't knock out all those lights at once. I know they were working for sure before I lent out the car.

Note that it has about 230,000 miles on it.

yeah check the fuse, no reason the heater control would be out from coffee..i hope you "buddy" at least buys you a meal and some beers for the favor followed by issues.....i mean crap happens, but at least make try and good on it...

All the dash/radio/glove box/etc illumination bulbs are on the same fuse, so if some work the fuse is good.
Check for a bad connection.

Wait, so the radio and all the lights on the right instrument panel are on the same fuse? So if those lights are all out and the radio is working, this means there is a connection issue? By "Connection" what exactly do you mean? Could it be related to the coffee spill?

I'm not currently on speaking terms with this "friend" btw... it cost me $700 alone to replace the bald tires. Bad scene.
