Heater fan only works on high - need help

I have a 2006 4Runner Sport. The fan works fine with no unusual noises, but it only operates on high. I did a search on this and it looks like the problem might be a blower motor resistor. Is this a common problem? In case it is the blower motor resistor, I tried to find that part on some sites that sell genuine Toyota parts, but I couldn't fine anything by that name. What else would it be called? I found something called a "controller", but it was over $130. On some of the threads I found where the problem was the blower motor resistor, guys were saying the part was less than $40. Any ideas?

$130? Holy crap. Parts for these Toyotas are insane. On most trucks this is like a $10 and 5 minute job. OUCH.

even for my 85, its like $60 the last time I checked.
that's why I don't have the LOW setting still. lol

Toyota Parts are outrageous!!!

The last time I checked for O2s they wanted $250 each!!:moon: I went and got some Bosch Universal 4 wires and a little splicing for 65 Bucks..

Very sure it is the culprit.

Depends on if its an old school resistor pack or a new control module. A lot of modern cars are using pulse width control modules to regulate a lot of things. Toyota has apparently been using pulse width controlled HVAC fans in a few models for a while. I can't remember if the 4th gens use one or not... should probably check in case mine takes a crap on me some day..

OP.. let us know if it works for you. The bad thing about electrical parts is that usually once you pay for them they are yours. No returns. Hopefully this will cure your issue.

The blower motor resistor was the problem. I ended up finding one at my local Advanced Auto Parts store. It was just a few dollars more than online, but the part has a one year warranty and it will be very easy to return if I need to. The one they had was the exact same Denso part and part number as the factory unit. It took me less than 10 minutes to replace it and now everything works as normal. Thanks for the help here!
