Heating up on the highway

Just so everyone is clear - 6 o'clock for the 5vz. Almost every other engine it should be installed at the 12 o'clock position.

Sounds like the problems are fixed. <200 in demanding (~100*F, AC on, uphill at speed) conditions is good and right around 190*F the rest of the time is perfect.

I hope so. I mean it never overheated before, but the temps seemed way too high. I'm also comparing my truck to other people on the internet who say they see temps of 195 pulling a trailer up hill etc. Just want and need this thing to last me a few more years.

I'll monitor it for the next few weeks. Camping trip next Monday and helping a friend move on Wednesday which will really test it.

Couple spitballs anyway...

Keeping motor cool needs good cooling system but has a lot to do w your tune up too. Lean fuel or spark advance. Rich can heat up too. Ecu takes care of all that on these trucks so there’s nothing to really ‘tune’ however it uses data from sensors. Thing about data is garbage in garbage out.

Have you cleaned MAF or throttle body? Might consider brushing her teeth. When I first did this after I got my truck, it was amazing what it did to smooth out idle and smooth temps.

Injector cleaner? Upstream o2 might be off.

Pull your plugs and take a look at them, maybe some clues.
