Heavier Springs Before Bumper

I’ll soon be ordering a bumper and winch that weighs in approximately 200-240 pounds combined. I’m currently on Bilstein 5100 with factory springs on the top setting for a 2.5” lift. Dobinsons suggested that I pair my 5100 with their heavy duty front spring that is rated at 730lbs spring rate and will allow it to support 200-240 pounds of additional weight.

Should I install the springs now (without extra weight) or install the bumper and winch first, then install the new springs? If I install it now, I’m worried that it will be too high and cause premature issues with CV angles. How much sag will occur if I installed 200+ pounds in the front on the 5100 with factory springs?

I just posted something similar and was told to add the weight and then the suspension soon after.

That being said, I'm not adding quite as much as you on the front (SSO hybrid bumper, high clearance kit, 31M battery) and it seems like a full bumper and winch could make for some awkward driving.

DO NOT use put the extra weight on the front while using the Bilsteins on the highest setting. Personally, just go with the Dobinsons shocks and springs if you want to go fairly cheap.

This. 730lb is very stiff, I'd shoot more for 700lb springs with a different shock only if you're doing full front bumper, winch, etc. Otherwise, 700 will ride like poo and you should stick with 650.

It would be used with the bottom setting on the 5100. Per Dobinsons, this would yield a 2-2.5” lift with the additional front weight. Tried searching for similar setups, but couldn’t find anyone with this exact setup or similar.

Installed the Eiback Pro truck kit and the bumper at same time, my bumper and winch are around 250lb with the front shocks on the second setting it looks great and so is the ride.

I went ahead and installed heavier springs BEFORE bumper/winch install.

Bilstein 6112s with King 14" 650 lb springs on clip settings at 5/3. 6112 at 5/3 settings were supposed to give 1.6" lift with the 6112 springs, which are 14" 600 lb. I ended up with just over 2.5" of lift in the front with the heavier springs. All of the above is WITHOUT any extra weight added.

The ride is super stiff. It's not terrible, it's actually not bad for city driving IF the roads are in good condition. But I wouldn't drive on anything other than well maintained city roads if you do go this route.

C4 lo pro bumper is on its way and should be here <24 hours and just needs to find a powder coat shop. I've put on about 250 miles with the heavier springs on the 6112s while waiting for the bumper to done, and haven't had an issue. But I am currently running 650 lb springs, I don't know about 730 lb springs with no additional weight, that might be a little too much.

im running the ome (1 step up from the normal weight) as i was planning on going with a bumper/winch...

billy 5100s too on the 2nd notch (0.85).

Ive never road in a 4runner that has normal shocks to compare it to but i dont find the ride that harsh... :roll:

i was also on pretty high spring rates for my bmw prior to this... so my ass is used to stiff rides...... (HA) :whipping2:amen:
