Heavy duty struts for rear hatch?

I put a Gobi ladder on my rear hatch (a 1999, if that matters).

Now, with the window down, the struts do not keep the rear hatch open. Can anyone recommend some heavy duty struts that will keep the hatch open?

Use the Search field at the top. There a a few threads here that led me to buy a set of StrongArm(?) that are made in the USA and my wife can barely close the hatch now. There are also strut mount bushing replacement threads I need to look at again and deal with. You'll probably find your factory stuff is toast.

I have the Strong-arm struts that have a higher opening force. They are starting to fail in cool weather after about 6 years, so expect a similar lifespan. My tailgate also has extra weight.

I highly recommend the Spiker Engineering Strongarm 6815 struts. These are the “heavy duty” struts that are stronger than the OEM replacements. I put these in and it lifts my 10-month-old grandson (20 lbs?) with no problem. Being that your ladder’s weight is spread across the height of the back hatch, the 6815’s will have no problem with it. Just watch your chin when you activate them for the first time. Fair warning.

This is what I have and man you do need some muscles to shut it close lol. I don't think it'll get worn out in 6 years but we'll see. I have it installed maybe 6 months. There was a post somewhere where they gave out the part numbers of the rubber white plastic and the E clips.
