Hella DE's

Just ordered a set of these to replace the stock fog lights. Anyone else have experience with them? I know they come with the custom brackets and switches and instructions, but will the OEM fog harnesses match up to the ones that come on the Hella's?

yes they do plug right in. the brackets are also a fairly simply intall. shoundnt take you long if you already had fogs in there.

Do I get another switch for the fogs in the interior, or do they wire up to my stock fog switch?

omg
i must have orderd the wrong hellas, i had to customize the brackets and adjust so much to get mine to fit!

just installed mine today
i work slow but took me practically all day!

Unless they have improved them over time, I can recall many complaints on the other forum in regards to the DE's having water issues, rusting, etc. The factory Stanley's have much better durability and you should be able to grab them on ebay.

if you already had the factory fogs in there you should only have to install brackets and plug in. the facotry switch should work and there be no need to install switch and relay as they should be in there already.

I figured for $150 for two I can't really go wrong, especially since I was quoted $441 for just ONE fog light OEM housing. Wasn't able to find much lower than that online

Correct the factory fogs are significantly higher priced from the dealer. On Ebay they usually go for around $100 each, still higher than the DEs.

I made the same mistake, the first set I ordered were the universal Hella DE's, not the 4Runner specific ones... lol.

I haven't posted in FOREVER but didn't you use to have a 3rd gen?

(sorry for the thread jack)

I ordered this:

http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=2590

AND

Came with everything, the bracket and switch and what not. HOWEVER, did not receive the instructions. Therefore, I was not able to see how the brackets would fit. It is the same kit that is in this thread:

http://www.yotatech.com/f2/fog-lights-156296/

For some reason, the bracket will not fit. Also, keep in mind that I have a 2000 Limited which came with fog lamps from factory, not dealer installed. I am wondering if this is the reason as to why it would not fit because the FACTORY brackets look totally different from the Hella Micro DE kit. If anyone has installed this kit on a Limited model 4Runner, please shed some light on this issue. Or if anybody has the instructions, that would be great.

I have the same kit and the same bracket.
For some reason though I cannot seem to make it fit.
But then again, I do not have the instructions and that could very well be what I need.
Still though, the FACTORY brackets are nothing like the ones the Hella DEs come with.
Right???

While I have OEM fog's. The cover screws are frozen and I can't change the bulbs :bash: . For the effort of drilling them out, retapping etc, it's easier to replace them and have better lights.

I just ordered mine today and will let you know how the install goes. May be a week or two.

Will take some photos and try to write up a how-to mod for the board.

I have sort of the same issue with mine, and am just throwing in DE's. The still take H3 bulbs right? I want to put some yellows in

On my Micro DE's, replacing the bulb only involved removing the rubber boot on the rear of the assembly; not removing any screws. The bulb is held in place by a spring wire.

I have the H3 Hella Yellowstars in mine and they really improve contrast in snow and fog.

Please share with lots of pics. I am looking forward to it. The only thing I am missing is the instruction manual. For some reason, the brackets are very different than the OEM. Or maybe I just haven't figured out how to mount them. Supposedly, what makes the Micro DEs so much better than the OEM is the beam pattern and the way it throws the light as opposed to the OEMs.
