Please share your experience with the following concerns at the link below. My main issue is not being able to move my shift lever over far enough to pull back into reverse. Would that be a Mechanical or Electrical issue (before I tear my console down again looking for restrictions? 2007 T4R SR5 2WD Automatic 54,000 mi..

[MENTION=63377]jow[/MENTION] Looking at how torn apart the shifter assembly was, I would imagine something is still binding up in the assembly causing difficulty in shifting into reverse.

What you can do is to take the shift cable out of the shifter assembly and while stopped just pull/push it and see if you get full range of motion. This will for the most part eliminate the shifter cable being sticky/seizing and possibly causing the shifter to work harder/pop the spring out. The transmission is both mechanically and electronically controlled, the majority of the main functions are actuated via manual valves (i.e. the shifter cable moves a lever which then moves valves in the valve body,) but the transmission does manage shifting and pressure control itself as well. I don't recall where position information is taken from (it might be on the actual transmission itself if I remember right.)

This mainly sounds like a mechanical issue with the shifter assembly to be honest with you. Unfortunately there isn't much in the FSM regarding adjustment/overhauling the shifter assembly besides replacing the shiftlock solenoid portion. At this point unless you have a known good shifter and/or pictures of a known good unit in various stages of disassembly I would probably check the cable to rule out the transmission/cable side of things and source a new shifter. It's not common, but at nearly 300k, things do wear out and since a shifter is a high-use item; it does seem likely it's done.

As stated, I’m trying to see if I need to look for Mechanical Issues. Since monitoring for Brake Lights, I have gone to Reverse 20 of 20 tries with the lights showing to be on. I know or feel this will occur again. If the brake lights are off while I’m on the brake and no reverse, I feel it’s an electrical issue (Brake Switch maybe). If the lights are on, look for Mechanical Issues.

Quick question, if you jiggle it or push the shifter up/down a bit does the gear light up again (possibly only when moving halfway from 4 to D or 3 to 4?)

I tried to find some jiggle or play in my efforts to get going and could not find any. Since my 2010 purchase, 4 yr warranty this has shown in my 10,000 miles of use.

The 20 tries and 20 shifts into reverse have to be a record related to 1-2 shifts before this concern. I felt 1-2 was normal until recently and “the 20 were in the sink mode”, since I did not move. Once I’m in “the full right slots (from Park), All Is Good”.
