So about a year ago I took delivery of my '14 Trail, shipped down from Montana because I wasn't willing to do without KDSS. Having test driven the local trail variants without it, it was well worth it. The local dealers wanted full sticker, and 5 months lead to order me one :lmao: I understand the 5 months lead to get one built and shipped from Japan, but they weren't willing to buy from another dealer to get one for me. So I went out, found 3 in the color I wanted, picked the closest and least expensive one and threw a deposit down via phone. Only then did I find out it was still on the ship from Japan, but the ship made port within the week. It took about 3 more days for the truck to make it to the dealer. I paid via phone, and had a shipping company grab it at the end of the week then haul it on down to me.
The 4Runner replaced my charismatic and mechanic friendly 02 Subaru Legacy. It also replaced a beautiful 92 Ford Bronco 5.0 that I'd helped a mechanic rebuild and tweak as a fun vehicle.
Those beefy tires are Dick Cepek FC-II's. They rode a little rough, had a touch of whine above 50mph, but gave great traction (except on ice), and wore down tread at a glacial speed. Pictured here they already have 10kmi on them.
In the past year I've logged nearly 17kmi on the 4Runner including 2 trips through the Midwest out the mountains of TN and back. I've also had several lessons, some taught the hard way.
Lesson 1, this has more 4WD and traction control modes than I think I'll ever understand, let alone use. Here's some fun in the grasslands near work trying to figure out some of the modes.
Lesson 2, when exiting a vehicle for pictures, ensure you've pulled out of any puddle, pond, or stream, lest you wind up with wet shoes and pants.
