Hello from Orange County, Ca

Hello from north Orange County! This is actually my first post to the site. I have been browsing it for a while and found a good amount of helpful content here. I actually found this site while researching what to look for in a used 4runner when i was looking to buy one. I have 1998 limited 4runner 4x4 that I love now. I would like to upgrade it a bit for more light off-road capability and I have been scanning for ideas the last couple days, my problem is, I have no $$$ so for a while any upgrades will be minor. I would like to connect with other So Cal members and find out where you all like to do some light off-roading around here and maybe plan some meets. I have never gone off-roading but would love to learn more from some experienced off roaders. My family and I are going to Mammoth Ca in a few weeks and I am looking forward to finding some back roads through the forest to go exploring on, nothing too crazy, don't want to break my 4runner first trip out, the wife would never let me do it again, she is already nervous about it as it is. I have reassured her I will take it easy and slow. I did actually just install some Falken Wildpeak AT tires and i am looking forward to putting them to good use!

Suprareal, I actually go to school at cal state long beach. I have one more year. I study product design there ad i am always sketching cool ideas for cars, I have done some body kit designs for tuner like cars and such ( not that have actually been made ) but I am hoping to design and customer fabricate some stuff for my 4runner, I have this idea that I want it to translate some of the look of the Halo warthog to some actually application with out too much major modification. I want to too some little thing like similar lighting maybe the tusk like bull bar and winch up front. I will probably sketch it all out first.

I go to LBCC and plan on trying to transfer to cal state next year actually.
And that sounds awesome! id have to look into that it sounds really fun. Is there alot of pre requites for that?
Id love to see some local fabrications down the line though, im guessing you weld right?

sorry for the delayed response Suprareal, I was out of town and didn't have internet. There are not a lot of prerequisites to the industrial design program. Primarilly because it is designed to take you through lower devision art and design classes while you complete your general ed, then you have to pass a portfolio review process to be accepted as an junior into the program which functions like a cohort for the last two years. It is best if you can start at CSULB if you are looking to complete the program faster, however i transferred and was able to focus more one the design classes because i had all of my general ed out of the way with the exception of upper devision general ed. You can expect to spend a minimum of 4 years completing the degree even if you transfer in. I transferred to csulb in 2008 with previously 3 years of junior college. I have one more year before I graduate, and i completed my lower devision faster than most people. The one thing you will need to be good at is drawing, and everything else can be taught. You will complete basic drawing and perspective classes to help hone skills but it is best if it is something you enjoy because it is the bulk of the work. Make no mistake, it is fun, but you have to be passionate about design because it is also a LOT! of work.
