My '99 4Runner (automatic/v6) has started making a clunking sound
when I move the shift lever from Reverse to Park or Park to Reverse.
It's fine when shifted to neutral or drive though...no sound/noise.
In addition, on two separate occasions when shifting to Drive,
my vehicle creeped along for about 10 seconds until finally accelerating
properly (not normal for this vehicle).
I've been told it could just be needing an adjustment or that it
could be my transmission. I was told to check my transmission fluid
for metal shavings which would point to a transmission issue. And
I was advised NOT to change my fluid at this point because it could make
matters worse. Oh, and the sound is coming from directly under the vehicle
not from the rear (differential).
So...I'm here looking for help. Any idea what may be causing the
clunking and the slow acceleration? Any help would be greatly
appreciated!
