HELP! AVS Bugshield for Trail Edition

I tried to install the AVS Bugflector II (p/n 25053) on my 2011 Trail Edition today and the hood wouldn't close. I installed according to the enclosed instructions. It appears the bugflector contacts the top of the grill preventing the hood from latching properly.

Has anybody else had this problem?

I put the same one on my 2011 Trail Edition without a problem. Take a picture of your installation so I can see if I notice a problem.

Same deflector on mine as well with no issues...

do you have the little angular brackets that attaches the grill to the holes on the underside of the hood? I'd almost guarantee that if you do, you might have the brackets on upside down.

Thanks for the response LADYWOLF, but the AVS bugflector II doesn't use brackets. I believe you are talking about the Toyota deflector.

Thanks also to LIBIDO and LOWRANGE44 for the responses. If you have the AVS product, what is the cross section like? THe one I have sits flush against the hood underneath and extends out slightly, then bends downward about 1/4 inch forming what I can only describe as a gutter (as if to channel water running off the hood to the sides), before bending back up and to the rear over the hood. It seems the "gutter" is hitting above the grill, preventing the hood from dropping far enough to latch.

Even though the box indicates the correct model, I'm thinking its not the correct deflector for the 4R Trail. Installation is not the problem, trust me. I've been wrenching on all kinds of cars, trucks, and airplanes for 40 years.

STLDAVE I am guessing that if your take a few good photos of what you have and post them here, others who have the same product will be able to compare theirs and I think you will get your answer.

I just took the windshield washer to the little guys when I filled up going 6,600 miles cross country. Effective and it did not make it look...like it had an ugly deflector.

I can appreciate that. I don't really want it, but I'm trying to protect the leading edge of the hood from rock chips. I had a 3M clear bra installed to protect the entire front, but they didn't wrap it under the leading edge of the hood so the edge is exposed. The installer said they couldn't wrap it under and get it to stay (?) but since its the only 3M installer around, what else can I do?

Socco, thanks for the pictures. It appears that, as I suspected, they didn't send the right deflector. The cross sections don't seem the be the same. I don't know, maybe they sent one for a Taco? Any way, I'm returning this one.

That is how mine looks too. You probably got the wrong one.
