Thanks for the response LADYWOLF, but the AVS bugflector II doesn't use brackets. I believe you are talking about the Toyota deflector.
Thanks also to LIBIDO and LOWRANGE44 for the responses. If you have the AVS product, what is the cross section like? THe one I have sits flush against the hood underneath and extends out slightly, then bends downward about 1/4 inch forming what I can only describe as a gutter (as if to channel water running off the hood to the sides), before bending back up and to the rear over the hood. It seems the "gutter" is hitting above the grill, preventing the hood from dropping far enough to latch.
Even though the box indicates the correct model, I'm thinking its not the correct deflector for the 4R Trail. Installation is not the problem, trust me. I've been wrenching on all kinds of cars, trucks, and airplanes for 40 years.
