Help!! Bug spray

I just bought an '04 runner a couple days ago and already I have messed it up.

I sprayed bug repellent on my arms while working on my other car. I jumped into my 4runner and rested my arm on the center console. I looked down immediately and noticed a major discoloration. It was like it had a horrible chemical reaction.

I tried rubbing it out but it seems to grip the towel...

Has this happened to anyone? If so, can it be fixed?

That was not a fun first post! Welcome to the board, but wish it was under better circumstances.

I don't recall anyone posting a similar problem. Closest that comes to mind was the issue of using Windex on the dash (don't do it).

Have you tried anything to clean it -- that maybe instead of a discoloration that it's residue instead? If it was a discoloration, I'd suspect that some of the color was transferred to your arm. From your description that doesn't seem to have happened.

I'd start with water, then work to progressively stronger cleaners -- stuff like Meguiar's (or comparable) cleaners, perhaps Simple Green. But test in an inconspicuous place first -- you don't want to make it worse.

If it's just the console cover, then you should be able to replace it. But try cleaning it first.
