Hello, has anyone had problem with stock radio not reading CD's? Mine gives me a CD Error 1 reading. It just started recently and its driving me nuts. Thanks
I have been having that same problem for the last couple of months. The CD will be playing a song then it will stop playing and keep trying to read the CD like it cannot find the track it was just playing. After trying for a while it gives up and display the "ERROR" message on the screen. The CDs play fine in my other CD players. Even the same CD played in the Toyota will have the error on different tracks on the CD.
One of these days the CD player in my 4Runner is going to be replaced when I have time to take it to the dealer. According to the paperwork, my Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty covers the CD/Radio unit so it will not cost me anything.
^ I've had the same error. A bit frustrating at times, but still not ready to drop the cash on an aftermarket radio that will just end up getting stolen on the first trip I go to LA with it.
Good luck getting any help from Toyota, they have the worst customer service .I was having trouble with mine at 34 k,the service adviser made a note of it and told me if I received the error message again it would be fixed. Now that it is out of warranty,it is doing it again.I contacted Weiss Toyota here in St. Louis, they told me they would contact the zone rep and call me back. After I didn't hear from them,I contacted Toyota, they told me they would call me back.So after 2 months of nothing from Toyota,I purchasded a used stereo on Ebay.I will install it myself. It takes less than 1/2 an hour to do and if you go to this link it will give you step by step instructions : How to Remove the Navigation Head Unit from a 2003 Toyota 4Runner. Good luck@!
Well I finally got around to having my Toyota Dealer take my radio unit out and send it in to be repaired/swapped.
Just had it put back into today after about 4 weeks. Took longer than expected due to the holidays and my work.
Definitely strange not having music in the 4Runner. Was a good excuse to buy an iPod Touch to help fill the silence with tunes. :reddance:
Now I need a few iPod accessories for it and the 4Runner.
BTW, the whole repair was smooth and easy with the Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty.
