Help choosing remote start

Looking to see what remote starts you guys are using on your runners. I have a 4th gen V8. What brand should I purchase?

Im not sure if this will help because i have a 3rd gen V6 model but i wasnt wanting to spend alot of money and went with the python remote start and keyless entry. It worked fine in the summer but now since its getting colder sometimes it takes up to two tries for it to start. I am happy with mine for the price.

whatever price range and options you choose make sure you get a product made by dei (viper, clifford, python etc...) i have been installing these things for a long time and they are by far the best built most reliable system available.
 
I had a Clifford Security/Remote Start 2-way installed 5 yrs. ago and had no problems since. I love it.
 
I have the Viper System (model number escapes me). it has the rechargeable LCD remote. Had it for a year and no problems whatsoever.
 
Python 1401 here. I used this one so I had an extra output to roll down the back window. We used a timer module to turn on the body control module and think it is getting a signal from the switch to roll it down.
97 Runner, you need to adjust your tach signal input down to a 4 cyl or a 2 cyl. The longer crank time in the cold makes your remote start think it is not running.
 
any thing dei like stated. the brains have lifetime warranty. few people know this. compustar was good 7 years ago.
 
I have a 4runner now, but on my previous tacoma i had installed Prestige (APS997C i think)security system remote start etc and it worked very well. I only owned the taco for 2 years(i think) and never had any issues with the system. It had an LCD remote that told me whether my vehicle was locked or unlocked. You could set a auto timer for it. It ran for ten minutes and would auto shutoff. I loved it and I'm thinking of installing the newer version on my Runner.
 
What about Crimestopper... Are their keyless entry/remote starts any good? I have no idea who they're made by, but they seem pretty inexpensive.
 
OP, did you ever decide on what to get/get it installed?

99 highlander, I had my Clifford 1.3x installed 3.5yrs ago on my 04 w/ keyless entry and paid around $670 OTD, that included the starter, remote bypass, door lock connection, labour etc.

haven't gotten one yet, need to research them for what i need. just wanted feedback on which products you guys liked....oh and $670?? giggity!
 
ha ha, ya, welcome to Canada. $670 was a bit steeper than some of the competition, but I wanted a trustworthy reputable shop. A bad install can wreck your truck some bad.

So, to jump in here....If in Texas, I'd be looking at what,.....$300-400 for a "decent" auto-start system like Clifford, etc. installed? All I'd want is the remote start, and maybe lock/unlock, but not necessary. Also, is anyone concerned about the obvious ignition-kill bypass that exists when such a system is installed? What pre-existing safeties are we talking about here? Can the truck be driven off with a screwdriver when warming up? Thanks!

No, a truck can't be driven off while remote started. The system is tied into your brake pedal, the second you press down the brake to shift into drive it'll shut the motor off. I'm no pro but I beleive the security bypass is installed to not only let the truck start without the chip key in it, but to replicate it's security advantage and not make it any less effective than a truck without it.
