Help choosing Tires

I`m pulling the trigger on some *way* past due tires. I have a 2" OME lift/shocks and currently run 33x12.50R15 BFG MT`s. I have spacers installed but no idea what size as they came with the truck when i bought it. Im wanting something more street friendly as the roar of the BFG MT`s drive me crazy. The BFG MT`s wore really uneven. I had them rotated maybe 4 times and each time they had to add more weights. Could this be due to the thick spacers?

Are these 33x12.50R15 Duratracs the right size/load etc for my 1998 4 runner? I do mostly road driving but have the occasional mountain creek crossing and dirt road adventure. I want to keep an aggressive tire look but I really dont want the roar and rough ride of a mud terrain. Its not really necessary that I have a 33" tire other than the look. Should I step it down a notch to 32" for my daily driver? Will this offer any benefits? How much ride height would i be sacrificing? What tire size exactly would a 32" tire be given my current size?

Any recommendations on other tires in this price range? Discount Tire qoutes me $1,066 on the Duratrac tires and install. They also offer a $31 per tire warranty. Should I get this on top of the manufacturers warranty?

What ever I choose im going to have installed in the next 7-10 days. My current tires are giving me a pretty bad wobble and the fronts are almost slick.

I hate to sound like a **** but please use the T4R.org search engine. I have seen this question thread about 10 times a week.
 
Everyone here recommends Duratracs or Geolanders from what I've read. Aside from that, I personally haven't tried them yet, but I plan on getting some Falken Rocky Mountains. Millerad recommended them, and I read nothing but good reviews on them. For $172/tire, and a 50000 mile warranty you can't really beat that.

Actually, I did search. Have been searching for weeks.

An easier route for you would be to just click back and not respond. I could imagine EVERY question you could think of has been answered on these forums and pirate/toya. So whats the point of these forums at all when we could just use the search function? In the time it took you to reference the search function you could have answered my questions.

On a serious note. I asked like 10 questions. I`m not a big tire guy and didnt want to spent half an hour researching each question I had so i consolidated them into one thread. I assumed theres some people that read these forums that would know the answers to my questions off the top of their head.
 
Couple things...going down to a 32" won't mess anything up, you'll lose a tad bit of height, but nothing too bad. However, you may gain some MPGs back, and they may be easier to balance. Plus they'll be cheaper. A 32" would be a 32-11.50-15 usually...written just the same as the 33"s.

I'd get the extra warranty from Discount. It covers more than manufacturer, which is usually just tread wear. Things like sidewall punctures and stuff will be covered by the extra warranty.

There are numerous aggressive looking all terrains, just some more than others. Duratracs are probably the most aggressive looking. From there, the rest are similar. Here are some examples...

I would consider all these as good tires, especially for a DD that goes offroad occasionally. Don't get me wrong, the Duras are good tires, but closer to MTs than these others. After a while, they tend to get loud from what I've read.

Only reason I didn't mention the Kelly Safaris is because Discount doesn't sell them. And I'd stay away from those Fierce Attitudes...I had them before these Falkens and hated them. Hard as a rock and loud as hell. I've never been so happy to take tires off.
 
I've got a set of Falken Rocky Mountains, and they are amazing. I've had them since October of last year, put well over 75K on them, and they still have about half tread on them. Got them from Discount Tire, get them rotated about every 6k, and pressure checked. Plus, the warranty, you can't beat it. I've gone in there with nails in the tread, sticks in the sidewall, plugs in there, and they've replaced each tire for 26 bucks. Of course, it depends on what size tire you get as to how much the warranty is going to be. Great tire for the road, and bite pretty well. I plan on going up to the 285's when I have the 900 to do it. Just my .02.
 
I will attest the Fierce Attitudes are a pretty hard tire, but I have to say mine have been wearing VERY evenly and are relatively quiet for a MT tire. My runner spends about 85% of its life on road and I wouldn't hesitate to buy these tires again (even though I'm not a huge fan of the barbed wire stuff on them). I had Mickey Thompson Baja Claws before the Attitudes so I guess anything will seem quieter and wear nicer to me!
 
Not bad. I know discount in Hickory, NC has them, and they quoted me for 900 and a little change. Which still isn't bad. That's plus their warranty, and disposal of the old tires, blah blah blah.
 
Go through Discount Tire Direct. I called them up and talked to the guy...they'll make you a deal too. I got 4 tires, new wheels, all certificates, and the roadforce balancing for under $1200.

Goodyear makes all of those....aren't they basically the same tire? Dunlop FA, Kelly safari, Goodyear duratracs

I thought they were but maybe a difference in compound??

I know the Safaris and Duras are, but I've seen a few different "makers" of the FAs. And they are sold as a true MT, while the other two are ATs leaning towards an MT.
 
I was originally looking at the Fierce Attitudes, but holy crap they were back-ordered everywhere I went and impossible to get in any reasonable amount of time. Really glad I didn't get them, though...rock hard and annoying as hell I've heard. Because I'm a Sam's Club member and read such good reviews about them, I ended up with the Duratracs. Love love love them. Pretty quiet considering they are such an aggressive AT tire (almost an MT). If you are aligned properly and rotate when you're supposed to, they go the distance too. Just my .02 fwiw.
 
Has anyone tried the new Toyo Open Country A/T II? They come with a 60,000 mile warranty...and as always...45 days or 500 mile trial period. I just bought a set of 305/75/16 (32-12.5-16)...they say there suppose to be very quite, but still offer descent traction...at least I hope! I bought mine on line and paid right at $800 shipped to the house through UPS.

Just put geolander at-s on the runner, could not be happier, track great, good sipping, run great on the road and handle the dirt just fine, we used to run the good year gsa but that tire is no more, they were a great tire, strong, and ran great in the dirt, the geolander is about as close as you could get to the good year. If you are mostly driving on the road, they is no need for the duratrac.
Had a set of toyo at's on a dodge ram diesel 4x4, and they held up great.

I ran Toyo <s>Open Country</s> (in reviewing those tires, I don't think they're the same as what I ran) tires on my '86 and didn't have them long. They strike me as a solid street tire, but off road they were worthless. I lost three of them in a week just putting around getting firewood. One sidewall puncture from a sapling, a blowout on the freeway that had me thinking they might just be crap, but after thinking about it, I probably scraped it on something and didn't notice before it popped. The third one just didn't hold air longer than a couple days at a time. Whatever the issue, someone decided they needed the truck more than I did and when I got her back, it was just a pile of parts.

For the last 150k miles or so (I'm on my 3rd or 4th set now) my 4Runner has been running the Cooper Discoverers, however the specific tire has been discontinued, but they seem most like the current Discoverer S/T. Overall, I'm pretty happy with them as they have been great all around tires for my purposes.

Wow, your a whiny little b i t c h. If you dont want to spend an extra 30 minutes researching something yourself, you shouldnt be investing $1000+ into your truck. If you notice most of my posts are reviving old threads that I need help from. To be completely honest, i didnt feel I was being mean by posting that. Haha, let ME do some research and I will find you a dozen "which tire" threads from last week.

OH, and the point of the forum is to introduce new ideas or questions. Filling the server with hundreds of tire threads only slows the site down. And if youve been searching for weeks?! Then 30 minutes wouldnt hurt right?! Hmmm...
