Help, I have ants!

3-4 month old 2018 T4R. I'm just back from a 3-week trip to Wyoming & Montana. I was very good about keeping the car free of food waste (because: bears!).

I didn't notice any ants during the trip, but now that I'm home, I'm seeing ants all over the outside and inside of the car. A couple days ago, I noticed half a dozen of them on the inside of the driver's door--down near where the window slides into the door. Today, I saw a couple dozen on/near both the front driver's and passenger door.

This afternoon, I did more of an inspection and see them all over. Mostly outside, but also inside the front (driver's door, passenger door, a few on the dash). They seem like they might be coming out of the inside of the doors as well as inside between outer body plates of the car.

So... what the hell do I do now????

Is there something that I can safely spray down inside the doors to kill them--that won't damage the car / inside components of the doors?

I'm not sure whether or not it will work, but did you try some indoor ant bait traps?

Had this happen in an accord. Took it through a car wash a couple times and must have taken out their home base. Cleared it all up. I thought for sure it was going to be the end of my car. As long as they aren't crazy ants.

Buy a box of liquid ant baits at Lowe's or Home Depot - the one that says Kills The Queen. Place them where you see ants and let the entire colony feed for a day or two - they'll be hordes of them crawling out of the woodwork - they'll take the slow-acting poison back to the nest and wipe it out.

I never had an ant problem on my vehicles but I surely did on around my home. I also use ant baits takes a few days but then they are gone..

product works great terra ..has borax in the clear goop .. I put the goop in water bottle caps around the house or where I see ants in the lawn ..

do not spray not effective and will be bad for you..

I would inspect your air box filters ..

I bought a Miata that had been sitting on a lot for a while. Got it home and found it was infested with ants. Bought the stuff above and put the traps in the floorboards and in the trunk. They were completely gone in a week or so.:thumb:

I had ants living in Hawaii inside my FJ. I found the nest under the back seat and with a good ole shopvac I had them out in no time. Also, sprayed some home defense under the floor (enjoyed the rubber floors) and never saw them again. I did learn my lesson on parking under a low hanging tree after the ordeal.

Just accept that the truck is now theirs and move on with your life.

As someone already suggested, run it thru a good car wash with chassis wash a couple times. Then place some Terro T300 liquid ant baits inside where you see ants. Terro is good for both sweet and grease eating ants. The workers take the bait back to the nest and wipe out the whole colony. Might take a few days and you will know it is working as you will see swarms of the ants at the bait, then over time they will go away, although some dead ones may stay at the bait.

Been using it for years in my house.

For what it’s worth, glass cleaner kills small ants on contact.
