Help Identifying Connector

Hey guys. I finally bought a 4runner that fit all my criteria. Unfortunately it came with one of those hack job of an aftermarket alarm system.

I think I disconnected everything correctly. The car cranks, starts, and immediately dies. I think it's probably not getting fuel.

There is one connector under the left side of the driver dash that was tapped into for the alarm system but not connected to anything. The amount of space it has to move isn't very much but I still can't find where it connects. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks to me like the brake controller connector

Only used if you have a trailer brake controller installed

Ok, now after some searching I think its part of the trailer brake controller wiring. Still not sure why it was tapped into as a part of the alarm. Back to analyzing what else I disconnected I guess.

Thanks Bergs. Was typing my response as you submitted yours. Helps to confirm what I found.

Confused about why they tapped into that for the alarm. As this point, given the quality of the install not much is going to surprise me though.

Issue fixed! Thanks Bergs for the quick and accurate reply. Ended up being two more wires I forgot to twist together.

Depending on what they tapped into, and what the alarm features are (remote start, etc) they may have used the power, ground, and brake input. Obviously, the power from it generally wouldn't be adequate, but the brake input would actually be a good place to get it from, as you don't want to risk the integrity of the system by tapping in anywhere else.

What system was installed? Hopefully they didn't use T-taps or Scotch-loks for making their connections.:tsk:

It was an Automate AM7....pretty complicated system if you ask me.

The job was your typical remove 1/8 of sheathing, wrap wire, electrical tape. Certainly not ideal, but I'm at least glad they didn't solder anything because it made it that much easier to remove.

Damn! If that's all they did - wrapped the wire and taped it - then that was definitely a craptastic install!

On a side note, I have to correct my previous post about it not being a sufficient power source. I looked at the wiring diagram and the black wire is the power in, and comes from a 30A fused input. If you have no intention of using a brake controller, you could definitely use this to power most accessories.
