Help! Lost a receipt!

I recently performed scheduled maintenance - and I can't find the receipt for the oil & filter that I purchased. It's driving me nuts because I am anal about receipts and records. My mistake was allowing the salesman to put the receipt in the bag instead of having him hand it to me, and I think that it flew out of the bag.

My concern is if I have a warranty issue down the road and some unforgiving person at the Toyota dealership will deny my claim because of this ONE lost receipt.

On top of that, I went back to the store (Advance Auto Parts) and the salesman didn't log the order!!! I asked for a printout of the receipt and the salesman (a different one) looked up the date of purchase and the entry was blank - so I was SOL there.

Any suggestions or do you think I'm worrying for nothing, as long as I document the service?

If you are REALLY THAT ANAL, go redo the Maintainence and you'll have the receipt.

Of course, it'll waste your time and money...but you'll sleep better.

If you paid with credit card or debit/check card it will be on your statement.

Record the maintenance in your log book. Put down what kind of filter and oil you used. Who said you have to buy your oil and filter every single time? You could have received them as a gift for all they know or need to know. Especially if you have receipts backing up other work before and after this, you'll be totally fine. I log my maintenance too. I put down the date, work done, part numbers and mileage. And while I certainly don't keep all my receipts I keep a majority of them, and the fact that I have most job receipts, especially the bigger and not as routine jobs, backing up my logbook both on dates and mileage(if it was professionally done) speaks enough. I write down every job I do, but if I ever sell my truck down the line the next owner doesn't need to know the I bought my oil at walmart. Just that it was done.

Worst worst worst case scenario print out this thread so they can see that you no kidding lost your ONE receipt. And the date will match up with your maintenance log. But really bro, gran some sleep and relax a little

Ask the original salesman for a handwritten receipt signed and dated (while he remembers) to add to your records. jow

As one who also keeps receipts, I feel ILoveSnow's pain, and imagine there are others on this forum who feel it, too.

Some of us even go so far as to take pictures of our work (and the odometer reading), get them developed, and put them and the receipts into a 3-ring binder. Oh, and then there's updating the 4Runner Scheduled Maintenance Guide that came with the truck and the Service History in "For Owner's" in Toyota.com. That last one can be printed and also put in the 3-ring binder.

That there 3-ring binder of maintenance history has made for many successful "for sale by owner" transactions. My last 5 vehicles have had these records and each one was sold to the first person to come out, and for the full asking price. I figure the binder is worth hundreds of dollars.

To ILoveSnow, I'd just put a note of the purchase along with the odometer reading in your book. With the records you already have and the ones you will add in the future, it will be obvious to everyone that you really did care about your T4R and simply lost that one receipt. Keep up the good work.

Switch to a synthetic and you will only have to lose sleep once per year.

Go buy the oil and filter again, get a receipt, and return it. keep the receipt.

If it was a warranty issue later down the road. Toyota would have to prove without a doubt that you not changing the oil and filter that one time caused the issue.
