Help lug stud replacement

So, the kid wanted me to take him off roading. I have a 2019 4unner with less than 5000 miles on it. Got a flat (kinda expected with street tires).

Anyways, when replacing the spare I hand tighten the lug for about 5 turns and it became stuck....i then had issues backing it out which then broke the stud


Either way, trying to replace the stud, but is there a trick to lining up the teeth? for some reason it seemed hard so i just stopped, tapped out the new stud before making this worse.

You can see in the picture the teeth in the new stud were getting stripped. any advice?

Where did you get the replacement stud from?it looks larger diameter on the splined portion

You know what, I thought the same thing so i just went out and measured. the new stud is larger. I got it from oreillys. they said its for a 2018 4runner which i assumed would be the same.

Does anyone know the part number or where to get the right stud from?

Thanks guys. I think I might go Wednesday. currently at 4700 miles which is close to the 5k service. Hopefully they can repair it and not cost me an arm and a leg. But in reality it didn't seem too hard.

The best replacement studs are ARP, FJ guys do it all the time.

I snapped one off in week one, 65 miles. Dealer repaired it for me under warranty. I brought donuts.

I snapped a stud changing rotors once. The front studs are different than the rear studs!!!!!!!!!

I ended up getting them from the neighborhood NAPA, 2 of each front and rear.

The old stud should tap out fairly easily and the new stud should tap in easily.


From your pic, it looks like the wrong stud.

Maybe you crossthreaded the stud when it broke and the lug is boogered now....get a new one when you are there.

Anyone have the actual Toyota Part Numbers for the lug bolts for the Fronts and the Rears for a 2015?

Good idea to have as spares with the numb nuts at tire stores and impact wrenches.

Just got mine repaired and the parts were about $7 (nut and bolt). You can do the work yourself if you wanted to- I would think the labor would be 15-30 min charge if you went the dealer route... or maybe on warranty?

I literally just got it fixed by the dealer about 5 hours ago. They covered it under warranty. The issue was I could not find the part anywhere. Oreilly and autozone had ones for the 2018 4runner which did not fit the 2019.

For anyone that needs it or for future reference. The part number on the invoice is 90942-02079 for the bolt/hub and 90942-01058 for the nut/hub/washer.
