hey thanks man, i just want to say thanks to the community on this site for doing things like go out and take pics without even being asked, and you too
rdgt4r for finding that pic for me it really put my mind at ease and to be hnoest this is the cheapest/best/easyiest way of going about it for me, i was just very concerned about the over all appearance.


to the whole forum.

i truley feel this is the best 4runner site for our 3rd gens and you guys are the best forum members i have come across in all of the car forums i've been on,you rarely become snide or annoyed, our so called "WARS" on this board are very tame and mild and actually produce something instead of just turning into a personal attack name calling thread/dribble .

in fact i may be one of the worst ones on here in that regard and honestly i don't think i'm that bad compared to pirate4x4 guys and the other forums and i also always try and have an open mind about most things, so yeah enough of the ego stroking just wanted to say i'm glad i found a home here.

yeah everything i buy over say $100 i do my research on, it takes me months to buy cell phones,laptops,bumpers ect ect ect, i always want to have the best and the best price, or the best i can afford on my budget.....


i have about 10K invested in my camping climbing gear and i can tell you i almost couldn't handle it, i spent $500 on my tent and about the same on each sleeping bag i got, to be honest i much rather research truck stuff then types of down and baffling on sleeping bags lol

yep it's sitting in will call right now ready for pick up only took 30 mins, lol

the brother in law is one of the biggest arb locker dealers on the west coast and knows a bunch of the guys there personally heard him call up arb and ask to speak to jeff, lol

also he has a few shelves full of stock 4runner rear ends with lockers but suggests just going with an arb if you don't already have a factory locker, i don;t know why i'm saying all of this, i just think it's kind of cool and feel kind of lucky to have that in the soon to be family, lol.

i think i'm going to get him to order some sliders as well once i get the check back from the insurance company........





oh should state this as well, so the insurnace company,me, and the repair shop all worked ut so mid boggling stupid deal,

i pay out of pocket for my aftermarket bumper, the repair shop pulls all of the broken pieces off the truck from the wreck tally up the total for replacement parts and bill the insurance company, the insurance company will then cut a check to the repair shop for all of the replacement parts and labor, the repair shop will then cut me a check for the cost of parts and whatever labor i don;t use in the original quote, the total in the original quote for parts was
$1449.67

sooooo i should be able have $600 or so left over from all of this...you want to know what the kicker was?

i told them if they paid for the bumper and put it on they could just keep whatever was left over as i just wanted my bumper and didn't really care about the rest......idiots.... really
 
You never said you had an inside connection at ARB! You need to disclose pertenant informatin like that next time!!! I guess your BIL's suggestion makes sense if you plan to get a front locker in the future. ARB requires an air compressor, which if you already have one for the rear, it will save you some money.

BTW, make sure the shop you have install the ARB knows what they're doing. It does need some cutting and welding.
 
oh im doing the install having the shop take everything off and then i'll put the new bumper on.............so yeah i'll do a little write up on it

Come on you dont have to weld just cut the end caps off and the bumper slides on and bolts to the frame, however you can weld it if you feel like for added strength. I think Brian2sun did something similar to that.
 
i'm at least going to tac it to the frame, possibly, i've heard people getting vibrations through the arb, and it could be due to too much rigidity in the frame mounting via weld, i'm going to look into that i'd prefer welding it in place with a few easily removed tacks

Yeah, good memory rdgt4r. After bolting it on, I welded the mounts to the top and both sides of each frame rail with three 1" strips (all in places that I could easily grind if I needed to ever take it off). It works just fine for winching/pulling, it's very stout, and IMO it's easier than doing the angle iron end cap mod:

Either way is good IMO and neither is necessary if you don't use it to pull/winch.
 
BTW, I don't get any vibrations from mine, it's actually very quiet (except for my D rings that clunk against it).
 
so if i follow what your saying correctly is you just tac'ed a few plates to the bumper then welded those to teh frame rails?


my plan was to cut the frame rails,drill the mounting holes, torque it in place, and drop a few small beads around the mounting plate and the frame rail
 
dude this looks sweet... my 4runner is the same color and ive been thinking bout getting an ARB but just gotta wait til i can save up the money. So do u happen to know how much lift is on this runner? i just wanna reference point bc i have the OME 3" lift.

Didn't need to use any extra plates. Since the mounts slide completely over the frame rails, I just tacked the mounts directly to the rails. The bumper itself is still just bolted to the mounts (no welding there), but the mounts are welded and bolted to the frame. I don't know of anyone welding the actual bumper to the mounts or the frame.

contact haddix i'm pretty sure that's the same set up as you have, i got the ome l/c coil lift just sitting around right now and need to get it on, but i gotta get the money for tires together first

ok that makes sense now, for some reason i wasn't thinking of it as a tube slipping over another tube, i thought it was plate to plate mounting and mistook
the "frame rail with three 1" strips" to mean strips of plate not a weld bead, haha, my bad thanks for the clarification, seems very very easy job ans shouldn't take more then an hour to complete.

Yes, easy peezy. About an hour total. FYI, before you weld the mounts to the frame, bolt the bumper on first to check that everything lines up good. The reason is you have a little play in each mount and may need it when bolting the bumper on. I welded my mounts and then bolted the bumper on and I needed take the bumper back off and smack one of the mounts with a sledge once or twice to get the holes to line up.
