Help me decide on new tires

I previously had a set of Destination A/T's and I loved them. They are the tires I will buy after my current Nitto Terra Grapplers wear - which won't be long at the rate they are wearing. The Destinations were quiet, tracked perfectly, wore at a reasonable rate, and didn't compromise MPG's

I drive 99.9% on road, and I can't recommend the Grapplers. They are overkill. I don't think they track well, and they are noisier than the Dest-A/T's.

Do your research. Buy the tire that fits your needs.

I just placed an order with Tire Rack for a set of Kumho KL61 265/70/R17. I was going to used these Dunlop Grandtreks that came with the truck that I just bought, but I'm not even confident with them going through the wet.

Michelin LTX A/T 2s are a solid choice. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. They are more agressive than the M/S, but still top quality Michelin tires.

We replaced Nitto Terra Grapplers yesterday with BFG All Terrains on our 2004. The Nittos had 70,000 miles on them and one died from an inch wide piece of metal picked up on the road somewhere. Luckily it died a slow death while parked.

I was happy with the Terra Grapplers, and was surprised they lasted so long. I've always been a BFG fan and the price difference wasn't nearly as significant as it was 4 years ago. My only complaint with the Nittos was an annoying tread vibration in the steering wheel on the highway when they were new until 10 or 20 thousand miles.

265/70R-17 with either tire is the perfect size for a stock 2004 T4R suspension.

If you are looking for something a little cheaper, I'd recommend Cooper Discoverer ATRs. A new set of them was on the truck when I bought my 4Runner (part of the CPO criteria). At first I was disappointed that they weren't a more expensive tire, but they haven't let me down yet. Quite good in the snow and I get around 21/22 mpg on the highway. Just my 2 cents.

Did they replace the ATR with the A/T3?
I was looking at the A/T3 and was wondering about them. Tread pattern looks nice. Looks like it may be ok in the snow. Wonder if they are the same price as the Destination A/T's?
