Help me decide what to do with my interior!

So I've been thinking about changing the look of my dash. The wood grain is just getting old and really clashes with my bright blue lit head unit.

I've always loved the Sport packaged 4Runners with the gray interior and silver painted dash pieces. How do you think paint matched would look with my oak interior? Not sure if that would work. I guess going with black would be a safe option, what do you guys think?

My ideal interior would be totally blacked out with some red stitching on the leather seats. But dying every single plastic piece, re-doing the headliner, replacing all of the leather and replacing the carpet is just ridiculous.

My carpet is in ok condition, it's loose in several areas so I started researching replacement. This is what I found, it is pricey but not as bad as I thought it would be. The link below also has headliner material as well.

I have the oak interior and am in the process of painting over all the wood grain with black. I have black and oak Wet Okole seat covers in the front and black husky liners and I think it matches up pretty well. Personally, I don't think the silver would look very good with the oak.

Make sure you get paint for plastics! I know that sounds silly to forewarn, but I had a buddy spray paint his Chevy's dash and it cracked horribly, until I saw the paint cans, intended for metal. What an idiot.

I would suggest Krylon Fusion for Plastics. I have used this on my mailbox numerous times, and it holds extremely well. It also sees the weather and still holds up. It is some good stuff. That and it flexes a little, so it would be ideal for your dash.

I have a 99 LTD and I hated the wood grain look. I took out every piece of wood grain, cleaned it and plasti dipped it, then clear coated over it. Personally, I like the plasti dip look over spray paint because it left a little texture, kind of like an orange. It turned out awesome and was super easy!

Sweet! hope it turns out well!! I bought this can of bumper stripper a while back for some random project I didn't get around to on my old Tacoma. It's supposed to take factory paint off of plastic surfaces like bumpers and flares. Might try and see if it will just strip all the woodgrain off (If I decide on black.)

I've got black huskys too man. I was literally one click away from ordering a set of Wet Okoles for my old taco. But my friend kept talking me out of it. Sick covers though. If my runner had some bad rips in the leather I'd have probably ordered some.

Thanks for the advice! I was going to follow the same process as someone painting flares or something of the like.

Haha reminds me of my friend and his beautiful Subaru Legacy GT. the interior was all blacked out except the headliner which was off-white and showed tons of dirt and burn marks. He was literally going to plasti-dip it. :lol:

Same here! deep down I really want to give it a shot! Who knows, the thundercloud might flow with the tan :shrug:

I used the Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Enamel. Used about 4 coats of Plasti Dip and about 3 coats of the clear. Word of advise, make sure you let it fully cure before reassembly. I would give it overnight to dry before assembly. I put a couple of scratches in it being impatient and installing only a an hour or so after the last coat of clear.

what paint(s) are you using?

I purchased several cans of SEM Bumper Coater (39293 - Honda Black) when I painted my cowl, wiper arms, rear deflector and tag surround and had enough left over to do the trim so I just used it. I've done everything except the area around the gauges and ignition and I like the way it's turning out, will post up some pics if you like.

I voted to paint it black. With the Oak interior, it is easy to make things look tacky unlike Gray. I think the woodgrain is one injection molded piece of "wood" by the way.

what type of paint were you looking at for considering the silver "sport" dash? I have an '01 that needs a resprayed dash, inst. cluster, and front door lock/window panels

I had a chance

to change the interior of my 00' LTD but chose to keep the wood grain trim intact in order to retain the OE look.
