Unless you want to detour into UT or CO, probably you're next best bet is east TN / West NC. I can't see the map in detail but you're probably going to be going along I-40. There's a trail just as you get into NC but before Asheville called Hurricane Creek. The entrance is literally right on the interstate on the I-40 west side (you have to go to an exit and turn around if heading East...it's weird...lol). Fun trail, not too difficult, beautiful scenery. Connects with another trail that takes you to Max Patch, a nice overlook.
Also around Knoxville there is an offroad park called Windrock that is awesome, maybe 30 minutes off I-40 before you get to Knoxville.

When you get settled in DC, you might want to check out Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreation Area. 4WD access to beaches.

You can find most of their tails for free, I ended up buying the yearly subscription and used it to find lots of trails in New Mexico on our trip this past summer (South Florida - Albuquerque/Santa Fe - Central Maryland - Back to Florida).
New Mexico and Arizona have lots of trails, then they will be harder to come by until you get to East Tennessee and North Carolina. There are plenty of places to go around Chattanooga, TN and Asheville, NC. In North Carolina check into Uwharrie National forest. Near DC George Washington National Forest and Shenandoah National Park.
I’ve moved from Maryland to California and then California to South Florida (way worse then California to DC area lol), driving both times. My advice is take your time if you can and just enjoy the experience.
