Help me pick a winch

2015 4 runner Trail, and I am getting a shrockworks bumper. I want to add a winch if and when the bumper ever makes it to me. (this is teaching me to be patient for sure) . Could someone recommend a winch, water proof is the only main requirement I have.

I was thinking somewhere between the
Warn 9.5 xps 1542$
Warn Zeon 10-s 1163$
Come UP DV 12s light. 1098$

Or anything else you wish to recommend

Thank you all in advance (& Merry Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/Festivus/Whatever else)

I've got the 9.5 xp-s and like it. Might want to check to make sure the Xeon even fits in your bumper if you haven't already.

I have a Comeup DV-9s. It has worked fine for me on the one day I have needed it (twice in 1 hour), but I can't comment for long term yet. The 12 series may be a little overkill for the 4Runner. As long as you stick with name brand I don't think waterproofing should even be a concern. I would recommend getting one with a wireless remote capability if you can. I'll be ordering that for mine.

Surprised that the Zion is the cheaper Warn but that's the one I have and use it way too much for all sorts of chores. Last one was helping knock down two too tall trees. Nothing negative to say. Can't say the same of the user :frusty:

Aside from making good winches, Warn has top notch customer service. Amazing really.

lipek : I had not looked at the superwinch, and I must say the discount on amazon is ridiculous ! ~ 35% off (and there is a 5% cashback discount on Discover now)
3wbdriver: I'll remember that and look into the comeup 9's .
phillyd2 : I am not sure why zion is the cheaper one but I have to really look at the differences.
BOVADS: Thank you. I don't think I will go with gigglepin but I like the name ! :D
V8Man : Sounds like something I would do ! lol !
Intruder : I should out an email to shrockworks and I'll see what they say.

Thank you all for your recommendations, suggestions and your time

I am getting ready to install the Zeon-10s on my FJ. Was originally looking at the VR10000-s but decided to step up to the Zeon.

Got an email from 4wheel parts that the warn m8000 was $95 off today.

On separate note I had a zeon 10s on my 97 but went with a 9.5xp for my 15 due to longer duty cycle and faster speed on load. I bought the synthetic line separate and it saved about $100 over the 9.5xps model. I also bought and returned a talon once I saw made in China on the box and cast in china on the hook.

Speaking of performance, at full load, :
Zeon 10S : 1.5 Meters/min
Zeon 10S Platinum: 1.7 Meters/min
Warn XPS : 1.89 Meters/Min
Talon 9.5iSR: 1.5 Meters/Min

Does that additional 0.59 between the Zeon and the XPS make a significant difference in your opinion. Also what do you think of Mile Marker Winches ? I understand they are made locally although their performace rating is at 1.4 mpm txbonds Sorry if its too many questions, I just want to make sure I am making an informed decision. (Edit : I assumed since they supplied to the millitary they made winches locally, I understand this is not correct. My apologies. And all online reviews seem horrible. Might just stick with Warn and not worry!)
DWM-4Runner : thank you, if you don't mind pls let me know how you like it.

I think the mile markers that made their reputation were the hydraulic ones years back. They may still be made in the usa but I think their electric ones are imported. Could be wrong though.

For some reason I thought the line speed under load on the 9.5xps was a good bit higher than the Zeons and others. It's basically a larger motor than needed for 9.5 sized winch which I think helps with the duty cycle being higher before overheating. Maybe the Zeons are that good too though. Don't know but mine seemed slow to me. I'm sure either would be fine if they will fit. I had my zeon on a cbi hybrid bumper which was open on top and allowed easy mounting mounting. I'm not sure if the Shrockworks fits the Zeons or not but I usually see the 9.5xp recommended with the Shrockworks.

Meh on the speed. When stuck the extra milliseconds will be meaningless. Slow and steady will be the song of the day.

The main problem you will most likely have with a winch, apart from broken line, is corrosion so the Zeon's IP86 rating was important to me.

The other thing I would compare is thier power draw. The lower the better since unlike anything else you will install a winch will eat your battery in no time, doubly true if you have a stock battery. In other words, a bigger motor may not be as good as it normally sounds in other applications.

I would print out the specs for all and compare each feature. A few jeep friends also run Smittybilt and seem happy with them as well.

phillyd2 : I am getting the dual battery from Kodiak and have the IBS (am i the only one that thinks irritable bowel syndrome?) dual battery system.

I do agree on the waterproofing bit. It was really my only and biggest concern. Once Shrockworks confirms the Zeon can work, I will most likely go that way .. since I am leaning towards it. Not sure if the platinum is worth the extra money. I tend to lose remotes and would like to have one less thing to go wrong. Thank you again for your time

I use the wireless remote and find it a big help with self recovery. Also carry a wired remote as back up. Although I know nothing about (and may be even a little scared of) it also controlling the Clutch too but sounds like a neat idea though if it proves reliable.

After consistantly comparing winch features, reviews, relibilty, prices . . . It was 4wheelparts Warn sale that sealed the deal on my final decision.

It just arrived:

Not sure how much you will actually use yours but I would be interested if in some time in the future you report back on how it holds up.
