Help me pick my suspension

I still can't decide which set up to go with.

King 2.5 remote resi's Front / King 2.5 remote resi's rear

Radflo 2.5 Front/Radflo 2.0 rear/ Metaltech Long travel kit

Fox 2.5 remote resis Front/ 2.0 remote resi's rear.


I'm looking for a smooth, buttery ride. I've read Kings are most likely to provide that given I can get the custom valved from day 1, but I've read you can't adjust the height of the Kings while installed on the car. I'll be putting on a SW bumper soon and need to support the weight. I'm not sure my existing Radflo 2.0's can handle the weight. I'm a bit hesitant going with Radflo's 2.5 kit, just because I haven't loved my 2.0's per se. I heard Fox's are a bit stiff without custom valving and can rust up a bit over time, and that they don't come with remote resi brackets.

I'd like to keep the budget at about 2,300 or less.

I love my ICON 2.5 ext travel resi coilovers and my metal tech rear LT springs. I have fox 2.0 resi in the rear but look to swap out to 2.5 ICON rear shocks.

The ICONs are super smooth on the street and offroad. I am in absolute love with them.

ICON are digressive rate and FOX/KING are progressive valved.

I would buy my set up again 10/10

Are you trying to stay away from Icon? There's a guy selling Icon 2.5 front & rear resi's with CDC adjusters on the FJ forums for 2,300$ right now.

Edit: ah nvm I forgot they were for a 6" lift. Sorry about that. But I would definitely look into Icon.
 
I've read all the above users build threads before...nothing too conclusive haha. I suppose I'll just have to shop for a good deal and be done with it.

i think youll be good with either set up. But i really love my icon set up. My fox shock in the rear is definitely stiffer than my front. Thats why i plan to change it out soon.
 
I have to agree with [MENTION=87687]LTDSC[/MENTION] I love my Icons as well they've been great on road very smooth and are awesome off road.

I'm also running Icon 2.5 extended coilovers up front ( not remote resi's) Paired up with icon 2.0's in the rear with the Metal tech LT kit. I just recently upgraded to the heavy rate 3" LT springs in the back because I'm planning on adding a rear bumper soon soon I wanted to compensate for the extra weight back there. It stiffened the ride a little bit but I actually like it because I'm running with out any sway bars so I feel it helped stable it a bit more on road.


I've hear that Fox's can be a bit soft, in some cases to soft. [MENTION=87687]LTDSC[/MENTION] how are yours riding in the back paired up with the MT LT kit?

[MENTION=76550]cbielat[/MENTION] is running 2.5 remote resi kings and he said he really likes them. Then again he's also running the Total chaos 2" race version LT up front so there's really not much about that set up that can't be liked haha. They are adjustable also so I don't see why you can't adjust them on the vehicle? I think he's running Radflo 2.5s in the rear with the Metal tech LT kit. I'm sure he'll chime in at some point.


I would say unless your doing or plan on doing a lot of high speed stuff you really don't need remote resi's. Their definitely nice to have or if you have the extra money then I would say get them if you really want them. But you can get the ride and suspension you want with reg 2.5" shocks and save yourself a few bucks.

IMHO adjustable w/Resi's 2.5" King or Fox is the way to go. I ran custom valved Fox's with awesome results. The control and feel off-road was great. With a quick dampener adjustment the on-road was also awesome. I highly recommend the adjustable versions. When I towed it was nice to be able to change the damper settings on the rear shocks.

If Fox or King was unavailable I would have no issues ordering Icon. But I just have more experience with Fox as I have run their custom valved products on my past few trucks. I am looking at getting a set of Ohlins built for my current vehicle as I love the Ohlins on my track car.

What's your reasoning for using only Kings in the 2.5" for the rears and not the Radflos or Fox? I ran 2.0" Radflos all around for 3 years with no problem. I upgraded the rears to the 2.5 when I did the Metal Tech long travel set up because I knew I was eventually switching the front to 2.5" shortly after.

The shock isn't supporting the weight of the vehicle alone. Most of the support is achieved from the springs. You could very well run a long travel set up with 2.0" shocks.

I am surprised Icon didn't make your list. I went with Fox 2.5 with remotes front and rear. The rears are mated with OME 885E 1.5" springs. I love the set up and how it drives on and off road. They seem to perform at their best on fast dirt, rutted out, gravel etc. The remote resi are kind of over kill and potentially dumb. I have yet to really change the remote settings. Part of the problem is Fox has zero info in the owners manual and nothing on line on how to change and why you should change the speed of the dampening. I am so happy with the ride and performance that I tend to over look the lack of knowledge on settings.
PM me if anyone knows when and why you would change the settings.
I am a huge fan of Icon. It shouldn't be overlooked. They have so many stages to choose from at different price points. Buy it right the first time rather than right the second time.
 
Ben at Filthy Motorsports in Colorado gave me a very educational story about shocks and why he suggests remote resi's = more oil. He mentioned that they aren't just for 'baja', but allow the user to have more control over dampening due to the increase in oil capacity. Makes sense to me.

You will not be disappointed with the 2.5" Fox w/DSC
