Help me price MY rig

I need/want a 4WD version of my 4runner and I'm kicking myself in the ass for not buying one, so here I am.

I considered converting my to 4WD, but it's my daily driver, so I can't be down and I don't have the tools/time that other guys have, so maybe I need to buy a 4WD truck - but I don't need two 4runners. Guess the 2WD has to go.

Help me set a value on mine so I can flip it if I buy a 4WD. Here are the specs of mine as it stands now:

1999 SR5 2WD Sport Jade Mica Green
237K miles (bought it with 67K)
Exterior has rock chip damage to hood and bumper, paint is OK, minor dents and scratches. Rear bumper has seen better days.
All body badges removed
I would grade the body fair to good.
No accidents I am aware of.
Interior is Oak and is in great condition with only normal wear
-recently swapped steering wheel
Upgraded stereo, will probably swap stock radio/cd and amp back in
CLOCK WORKS
HAVE FACTORY HITCH RECEIVER COVER

All maintenance is current:
Regular oil changes every 3-4K miles
Rear diff fluid changed 4 months ago
Timing belt, water pump, thermostat, idlers and belts 1 year ago
New LBJs and bolts this month
New brakes shoes, pads, drums and calipers/cylinders 1 year ago
NKG plugs and wires 2 years ago
TB cleaned, new TRD gasket installed
One Denso ignition coil a year ago
eBay IAC 2 months ago
New Hankook 265/70/16 ATs 4 months ago
AC tested and reclaimed and recharged, 1 month ago
New Denso radiator and Toyota hoses ready to go in
New front sway bar bushings ready to go in
NO CODES

Needs
Valve covers are sweaty and dusty, needs attention
-no oil leaks/drips
Wheel bearings are probably due all around
Rear axle seals are probably due
Jacked up my rear license plate bezel, needs cosmetic attention
Truck could use professional detailing

Upgrades
LED interior bulbs a year ago
DDM Projectors and Halos 8 months ago (will probably swap/keep)
LED light bars under headlamps (will probably keep)
Rear backup LEDs under bumper (will probably keep)
Drive shaft universals replaced 5 months ago
OME 890s, ProComp shocks and longer rear brake hose 3 years ago
1" Front coil spacer 3 years ago (probably due for struts and springs)
Taller Rear Sway Bar end links this month
WeatherTech front mats (will probably keep)
Satoshi grill mod pending (will probably keep)

Performance
18 MPG City, 21 MPG Hwy
Reliable, starts easy, drives like a dream

Not sure what else to say, I really don't want to sell this truck, I love it - I just wish I would wake up and it be 4WD [emoji14]

Guessing $5K-$6K

I hear ya on the 4wd dilemma. I wish my was 4wd as well but I can't sell because it was my Dad's truck.

Eatpasta just sold his 2wd for about $4300. His was a 4cyl manual. Had some recent mods and looked maintained. I think around 5.5k here in SoCal is possible. Not too many interested/need 4wd. Most trucks sold here are 2wd. Now, will somebody buy a already lifted 2wd runner? My opinion would be a stock looking 2wd runner would appeal to the "soccer mom" or the "average joe" looking for a car with some storage capacity.

Well it's partly about location, so LA is where we're at. 2wd isn't "half" of 4wd in ability to me, it's more about how you use what you've got but I understand the thought.

I'd say you're right to take some of the more expensive/easy to swap mods out (like the lights for example.) because you're not likely to get what you paid for them at sale.

Then I'd price it at $5k and work from there. I looked on edmunds for your MY/options/LA area and got $4200 retail, so that's why I started at $5k to have some room for negotiation. Only real issue it has that 'scares' me on repair price is the rear seals. Luck on the sale and the search for your new 4WD machine! :cowboy:

Agreed. Look at CL and see - I do every week

Thanks for the tips, I pretty much planned on removing most mods as there is no value in them to joe-average 1999 4runner buyer. Unless selling to an enthusiast - but my rig is far from perfect, it's no gucci ride; it's a daily driver that I parked on the street and came with rock-chipped paint. It's good from far but far from good, cosmetically.

I am not looking for a rock-crawler, and would only do casual trail wheeling to get to camp sites; so a factory stock 4WD is fine. It's all about convenience and freedom. Plus this is the first SUV I've owned out here that wasn't 4WD, so I feel "naked"

For me, 4WD drive means no chains on most highways between my GF and I (she's in Reno) when I drive there in winter and 2WD has to chain up. I'll still carry chains for the really crazy stuff, but even in my 2WD with fresh Dynapro ATs I motoring over snow and ice that cars and trucks with highway tread had no chance on. I grew up driving in the snow so it's no stretch for me, just gotta have the right setup.

A 4WD swap can be done on a daily driver with the right setup/tools... I did it - but I did have an extra (ok two extra) cars to drive if something did go wrong.

Front diff one weekend, rear end the next, etc. It can be done in steps except for the transmission and body (shifter) modifications is a bit of work all at once.

Only thing I'd change about my process is that I would do the front diff last - it gets in the way of the transmission swap a bit (though it is still doable).
