Hey guys. Just swapped out a bad tranny on my 87 4runner sr5. Well I'm having a leaking issue with the new one. It's coming from the part where you bolt the rear axel to the tranny. It leaks from behind the spindle. Is there a seal in their I can replace and if so what's it called. I took the spindle off of the old bad tranny and someone had red sealant in it. Can I replace the seal and if so whats it called? Thanks guys!

I think you can replace the seal once you remove the nut and companion flange, but its been a while.

If I'm seeing it right, that's your transfer case output seal. Drop your drive shaft and you can pry the seal out and install a new one. Use a mallet and tap it in evenly. Put a little bit of oil on the new seal to allow it to go in easier and coat the rubber part in some oil too before you put the drive shaft back in.

output shaft seal

you will need the spindle nut also:
3309D SEAL, OIL(FOR TRANSFER OUTPUT SHAFT COMPANION FLANGE)
90312‑23001 at least for my 1991 5 speed:wow:

Do I need the t seal and the v seal?

Edit; I think one of them is only for newer models
