Help! Need Fan & Fan Clutch Torque Specs

I'm replacing my fan and 3 drive belts, but need the torque specs for the following:

Fan blade to fan clutch

Fan blade/clutch assy to water pump

Everything I read says it's important, but I can't find the specs?!

Working on a 2000 4Runner, 3.4 V6

Already have it apart, desperately seeking these specs so I can put it back together :sadwave:

Let's see:

Clutch to fan: 67in/lb
Fan/clutch to bracket: 48 in/lb

And just to give a little advice on the belt tension:

The PS belt should have the most tension, with about a 1/4" deflection.
The ALT belt should have about 1/4"~3/8" deflection.
The AC should be at least 3/8", you may want to go up to 1/2". A little trial and error here. If there is too much tension on this belt, the bearings in the AC compressor can go south on ya fast. Just speaking from experience from helping a friend on his Tacoma 3.4.

Doh! The lowest my torque wrench goes is 10ft/lb...any advice?

You'll have to get an inch pound wrench. I had the same face palm when replacing my fan clutch. :redbrick:

Okay, taking a close look @ my torque wrench, it actually goes down to 5ft/lb (60 in/lb)...it's new and I hadn't looked it yet, when I ordered it, the specs on amazon showed 10ft/lb to 80 ft/lb.

Would it hurt to orver-torque the 48in/lb to 60in/lb (5ft/lb)???

Just tighten them. Odds are that your torque readings will be off anyhow unless ALL OF THE HARDWARE IS NEW. Any contamination (lock tite, lock washers, grease, oil, dirt, etc…) will change the reading. The torque wrench is not always your friend. Common sense usually is.

Okay, now how about belt tension for the a/c compressor, alternator, and fan belts? I have a tension guage, and it seems easy to use, I just don't have the specs for tension....I've gotta say, I am not at all impressed with the hayes repair manual I bought, doesn't seem to have hardly any torque specs or belt tension specs.

I just tighten them *****es by hand... never used a torque wrench except for engine internals. Never had a problem.
