Help needed

Just got back from auto electics as I can't get into top gear at the moment.
AE$reckons that there could be a wiring fault between the engine block and the gearbox.We've managed to find the thermostat cable to the dashboard, but we can't find the thermostat cable from block to gearbox.
Any idea's anyone?

1994 3.0l turbo diesel,just had a full service and lil bits eg anti roll bar bushes etc replaced:bash:
