Help Please- 5100/FJ Measurement

I need a little help and I have done many searches without getting the exact info I need. I have a 03 SE V8 and I put Bilstein 5100s/FJ Coils and they are at the highest setting, with a 265/70/17 tire that measures 31.9". I measure right at 37" now. If someone else has this setup could I please get the measurement from ground to fender please? I'm trying to decide if I need to go with something different in the front to provide more lift(want the max 3"). Gonna try to fit 295/70/17 Trail Grapplers....

Not the exact setup, but I've got approx 4" lift in the front (pretty close guess, I don't have my stock measurements) and 285/70's. I'm at 38" ground to fender. You should measure from center of hub to fender, that way tire size doesn't affect the measurement.

Knew I could count on you, thanks:wink2: What are you hub center to fender? I just want to be sure that I'm at the maximum I can get which is 3", right? I'm at 22" hub to fender and I was considering a 1/4" top plate spacer or even different coils, like Eibach or OMEs.

I'm at 23.25" from center of hub to fender. I also measured a stock 4runner, looks like I'm just a touch under 4" lift in comparison to it (just about 1/8" short).

You can probably do the 1/4" top plate spacer and be safe. Wear will increase some, but probably not a significant amount in comparison to the 3". I wouldn't be too concerned about that (thus the reason I'm at 3.5" suspension lift, I'm willing to deal with any wear that results). Second is the alignment. It may be difficult or impossible to get the caster back into spec. I guess this depends on the shop, because with 3.5" some are able to, others are not. I chose aftermarket UCA's to allow for more caster adjustment, not 100% sure they were required though.

I'm opening a can of worms aren't I? Someone said I might have to re-gear with the 295s, but I don't see how they are that much different than the 285s, only .5" taller/wider.

Those Trail grapplers are pretty heavy, the added weight is also a concern. I feel a difference with the 285s,, don't feel it's enough to justify a regear. You'd probably be fine, just expect a hit in power and gas mileage.

In short, it would be nice to regear, but not a necessity.

I drive like a Granny , so I should be ok. Gas mileage is already pretty poor and I don't put many miles on anyway. If I can get these things on I'll post some pics...

I have a very simular set up, And I got about 1/4 to 1/2 more lift than the measurements you posted. I have the V6 so that could be why?
I recently put on 285s and I need 1/2 to 1 inch more lift up front.
Also take in consideration that the 03 and 06 are a little differant
(talking about the fenders and back of the front bumper).

Thanks. I'm planning to add a 1" body lift, so that should help some. I just wanted to be sure I was at the max suspension lift I could get which is supposed to be about 3".

It's not how much bigger they are than the next smaller size, it's how much bigger they are than stock :) We can play the ooch game if we want, but it's really just a mind game. With that logic you could say 44's are cool as long as you go up 1" at a time LOL. Look up the weight increase of stock vs your tire size and that percentage difference will give one good quantitative indicator of the change.... at the end of the day it's up to you (or to the point you actually start damaging the truck, I don't know what would go first probably the trans or torque converter) how much degradation in acceleration and braking you can tolerate as you go bigger in tire size without changing other things like gears. This should include acknowledgement that being more careful stopping will be required, especially if stressing the vehicle in other ways (say, towing...)

Just made that statement because so many have and currently run 285s with hardly any issues. I clearly understand that these are much larger than the factory 30" tire size, but I bought a 4Runner to use it a fair amount offroad, thus I need more clearance. Not 44s, but definitely more than 30s LOL.
