HELP PLEASE! CEL, TRAC, VSC lights on

This morning when I started up the 4Runner(05 V8) I noticed a noise from under the hood, almost sounded like an electric motor whining similar to the noise a dremel tool makes, lasted about 15 seconds. Then I noticed the check engine light came on, along with the VSC and TRAC lights. Every other start while around town didn't make the noise but the lights are still on, vehicle drove and ran fine. Popped the hood when I got home and everything sounds normal.

Anyone have any clue when it could be? Checked everything I know to check visually and everything is fine. Going to have the wife take it somewhere tomorrow to run the scan on it. I'm a nervous wreck, last thing I need is some expensive repair right now.

sorry to here that.. you have a lot of research to do and it sounds like this issue. Start here and there is a couple solutions to this, if these match your symptoms.

After a couple hours research it sounds like what you posted truckhigh. I'm not looking forward to getting it scanned but will do. I'm lucky to have a friend that was a Toyota mechanic for 10 years and worked on these every day to help fix stuff...but he is a 2 hour drive from me now.

It made the noise for 10-15 seconds again on cold start this morning heading to the gym, leaving the gym no noise. Truck runs perfectly fine at idle and speeds up to 50mph so far. Keeping my fingers crossed. It's going to get a scan today if they can get me in.

Wife just called after having it scanned at Autozone. Code was p1445. From what I've found through Google the code is one of the switching valves.

Follow-up:

Some where I showed the original caps came back to it’s full shape in approx 3 weeks. I was tightening the cap past the 1st click as indicated. I took the cap by the inspection station and it passed. I put it back on the tank and no lights. Returned the new to Auto Store because it w/n fit on the door while adding fuel. The old cap on the 07 SR5 just passed this year due to the 1 click installing.

Lights came back and I feel the same cluster of lights and a tech checked for codes. He told me I needed a brake light switch but to come back when it stays on vs off and on per trip. It had to be off to get reverse which was irritating and could be dangerous.

I stopped by a friend’s shop and told him of the problem. He pulled the brake switch and had me watch the brake light while he pressed the switch. He felt it occasionally sticking and felt that was causing it to be erratic. His parts supplier would have to order the part and I opted to order it later and replace it. I tried to take it out to add some TV tuner spray to see if the sticking would go away. I d/n have the hand strength to twist the switch out. That has been over a year and it has not failed to work one time. I feel the new position helped to stop the sticking.
