HELP PLEASE!!!!! Wiring ISSUE

So I was trying to wire snake my PA speaker wire through the firewall on the drivers side. I pulled too hard and removed a wire...at first I thought it looked like a ground wire (by the shape) so I re-attached it to the nearest point. But with the wiring harness attached I fear it is something worse, and low and behold the vehicle will not start.

ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!

not sure what the pics are showing?

what is the connector with the jumper in it?

were you pulling the speaker wire into the interior or pulling the wire into the engine compartment?

The connector with the jumper in it is the one that came out. So I pushed a wire through, as a thinner wire snake to get the PA wire through the firewall and when I pulled it back through what I had was that broken white connector with a round wire. Now all accesories work, but the truck will not start. Any ideas?

does the engine crank over? if it unplugged from somewhere back there you'll have to squeeze in there feel around and find where it came from.

is your runner a manual or auto? if manual is it for the clutch pedal switch?

it is a manual transmission. I tried the clutch in and not with the cancel switch. Neither worked.....I agree I need to look around, I just have no idea where to look with a circular wire like that. Never seen one like that

So I am starting to see that you are calling the plug with the bare wire a circular wire .... correct? and you also grounded it? if so then you may have a blown fuse. if so tape that bare wire up so does not touch any thing metal

That looks to me that someone jumpered that connector ( in a bad way)

Check your fuses. inside the truck and in the engine compartment.

Correct, I am referring to the plug with a bare wire. It came out when I pulled the wire snake through. I just assumed it was a ground since it was circular in shape. But I did check the ignition fuse inside the cab and it is fine. I think I pulled it out from its connector and I just need to know where/how to get it put back togehter...

Dude check ALL of your fuses and tape that bare wire up.

I've never seen anything like that bare wire in a connector from the factory.

That looks like it is a not so good way to jumper a switch or something out of a circuit.

Pretty much what these guys have said, check the fuses. The plug looks like something that would plug into behind the fuse box. After that unplug the battery for a few minutes and see if anything changed.

Can you post, or take a pic of, the color of the wires inside the shield going to the connector with that ridiculous wire in it? I might be able to match it up to the wiring manual.

I can tell you there are NO two-wire connectors in the rear of the Driver Side Junction box. It may be from that vicinity, but it does not plug in to the box itself.

So if the general idea to tape it as it is or try and figure out where that thing flugs in? With that odd shaped wire I am not sure even what to look for to 'plug' into. If the idea is that it is just an exposed wire, then just taping it should protect it and maytbe throw a small piece of conduit on it?

Thanks again guys!

Any chance that it is a paper clip? Looks like it from here.

Somebody obviously unplugged and jumped it for a reason. It could not have been plugged in with that jumper in it. It may have been some kind of security system or other system that was removed and required the jumper to restore functionality to the vehicle. So you may never find where it plugged in. I hope whoever did that knew it was a jumper to ground and thus could be left untaped. I would see if either wire to that connector is a ground, usually black-white on our trucks. Test each with a VOM to see if there is resistance to ground.

The first thing to do is get the truck working again. Check every dang fuse again, with a light or meter, especially EFI.

Next time you work on wiring, disconnect the battery first.

WHAT ARE THE COLORS??

hmmmm..... maybe it was taped up but not very well and when you pulled it out, the tape came off and it touch a metal place that is grounded shorting the circuit blowing a fuse

x2 to what The durk said.......... AND WHAT ARE THE COLORS ON THE WIRES GOING TO THAT CONNECTOR WITH THE JUMPER.... RED WITH WHITE..... BLACK WITH WHITE ..... WHITE WITH BLACK.... KNOWING THE COLORS AND WITH THE FACTORY ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS WE MAY EVEN BE ABLE TO TELL WHAT THAT CONNECTOR IS FOR.

Cool truck Btw.

So I went out there, with my head held low. Got a photo of it closer for you, the wire is black and white. However it is the same wire on both sides, so I wondered to myself if maybe it is just that, a jumper? So I disconnected how I had it connected as a ground. I found a blown fuse in the STA fuse, I traded it for another 7.5 A fuse and the truck starts. I feel ok about the fact that everything now works!!! However I am still a bit concerned about that wire. I taped up the end very well and tied it to an adjacent set of wires so that it could not touch metal and short another fuse....

Any thoughts are always appreciated!

So the colors are black with white strip, on both sides. So that is why I assumed ground, that and the fact that it has this odd 'paper clip' looking wire sticking from it. And by the way, the batter WAS disconnected while doing all of this work. Thanks though

Good glad it is starting again. Nice looking truck.

Not positive but that connector looks like it has to do with a PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SW

Since it is not an auto transmission maybe the truck is suppose to be in nuetral to start it?

I have know idea how Toyota would handle this but I would think that they would just put a switch on the clutch pedal that would close when the clutch is pushed in and that would take the place of the requirement to be in Park to start the engine.

Not sure though I don' have a manual tranny.

That black and white wire is hot btw (+12vdc)

That was a good guess. I just took a look at my '99 SR5 5-speed--should be the same as yours except for the locker if you have one, and that is the connector to the switch on the clutch pedal. I bet yours will start with the clutch engaged, if you want proof. Put it in neutral and try it.

So just do what you said. Tape it up out of the way and forget about it. Or remove the jumper and see if you can plug it back in. The switch is located BEHIND the metal plate that goes over the pedal bar that you can see in your first pic. It's up close to where the pedal pivot is and totally out of view. Yours may be broken or missing or maybe the PO just didn't like it--you really have to push the pedal 100% to the floor to start it, and some people have trouble with mine, including parking attendants and the GF.

And yeah, grounding that sucker will blow your STA(rter) fuse.
