Help please?

Hi,

I have a stock 1985 4Runner (SFA). I bought Alcan Springs with 3” lift and shackles from 4crawler. Total lift is ~4” due to the longer shackles.

My mechanic is installing, and had trouble with the front springs.

He said I needed: new trailing arms, sway bar links, shocks and steering shaft.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to get these parts? I didn’t realize this would all need changed out (aside from shocks).

For the shocks, I’m wondering if Bilstein 5125 12” shocks would work.

It’s really going to be more of a cruiser / forest road truck, not going to be crawling with it.

might wanna go over that list with your mechanic again.
an 85 will not have trailing arms up front. - maybe he meant bushing of some kind
-New shocks for sure the bilstiens are a great option
-steering shaft - definitely possible on a truck that old
-sway bar links - possible. None of the 4 SA toyotas i have had, had the sway bar upfront.

Thanks for the reply! Regarding the steering shaft and sway bar links, do you think they need replaced due to old age or due to the fact I lifted it 4 inches?

Reason I ask is because I’m not sure if I need to look for stock parts or aftermarket parts to fit the lift.

Ok, I stopped by the shop and they showed me the issues.

Can anyone tell me what this part is called? It’s what the red arrow points to in the picture below.

They were calling them trailing arms, but I now know that’s not the correct name. I need to find a longer one so it can connect. (I drew in the part that it connects to because the picture was too bright)

Also, the steering shaft is now rubbing against the leaf springs.

If I went with a high steer / crossover steering kit do you think it would eliminate that issue?

Being an 85, I would need a power steering box from an IFS truck, and I’m a little worried about having to reinforce the frame.

Yes, going high steer will eliminate the steering issues and the need for the "controlling arm"

Yes on the newer box. Bracing the frame isnt bad, Trail gear makes a kit that makes is supper easy, good time to push the box forward, since your moving stuff and the steering shaft needs to be lengthened anyway.

I would pull the sway bar off entirely.

Make sure your front drive shaft has enough slip that it doesnt fall out at full droop too, and that your brake lines (front and rear) can handle the new suspension height/travel.

95 4runner body swap help

Hello,
Sorry for highjacking the thread, cant post yet..

I have a 1995 4runner that needs a body swap. I have both vehicles, just need a place to do the work. estimating 2 days of work. I can pay for space/time. Basically just need a lift/forklift to lift the body off. Im in Oakland,CA- donor is in Bishop,CA so anywhere around those areas works best. If you have any info/ideas PM me
