Help Sought - Built 3rd Gen FS

This is a ridiculously overpriced 3rd Gen but a sign of the times for Craigslist sales. One guy lists his rig for a crazy price. The next guy sees his ad and realizes his is nicer than the other dude's and asks an even higher crazy price. Then, a buyer with more money than sense actually gives one of these guys what they're asking. The Craiglist market for our 3rd Gens is very inflated right now and I don't suspect it's going to get any better.

I bought my 2000 SR5 4x4 with 111k 4 years ago for $6300. Now, people want $9,000 - $10000 for a rig like mine. I've been in the market to buy a second one and it's hard since I can't see myself overpaying so much to get one.

OP, this rig has over 200,000 miles on it and the guy wants $12,000. Sure, he has some nice upgrades but those upgrades aren't going to mean a thing when the engine maybe blows a head gasket or the transmission starts to slip and now you're faced with the decision to fix it or unload it.
 
There is a nice 2001 4x4 sport on CL now that a guy I know is selling for $6500 with 4" total lift. 215K. I'm tempted but I didn't want that much lift.

Black rigs are a pain in the ass. Also I agree that 12,000 for a 200k rig is pushing it. Even if our t4rs are known to be reliable in general, 200 is a lotta miles!

I got mine with about that milage for 1,200$. The po had just got a new taco and didnt need a soccer mom rig. Interesting that there were meticulous records from his parents, but after he took the rig to school there were like 3 random oil change receipts over four years! From the condition of the fluids, I think I saved this one from an untimely demise due to neglect. I put maybe another grand into it since then. Could easily sell it now for 4k but will probably keep it and run it into the ground.

Patience, I agree. Nothing pressing, a want, as opposed to a need...

That said, I'd really like to get the family to Tahoe this winter.

Just saw an image of a Limited, minus the body cladding. Tons of holes, as expected. They can get filled, I know...

Rust-Free comes at a premium, but in reality, there are TONS of 4runners out there - just be patient if you're looking to buy

I have considered going out of state, but rust! (read stay away from Texas)
 
OP, keep on looking, or do what I did and pick up a hit one off the auction, yes it is more of a gamble, but you can even the odds if you run a autocheck/carfax.

Mine is almost pieced together and it only cost me a little less than $4500 for a 1999 SR5 with 117k, granted its salvage title due to the front end hit. Purrs like a kitten though and no shakes or rattles.

Not giving-up, that's for sure. Someone tried to convince me to get an Xterra instead... I researched them again, and remembered why it didn't make the final cut.

Friday afternoon, and no new ones for sale here in the Bay Area and surrounding environs. Before, Fridays were THE day to post, before the weekend of course...
 
Took me a while to finally find a 3rd Gen 4Runner in the Bay Area. I was pretty specific in my search, definitely wanted a 99-00 Limited and 4x4, Rear Locker and Silver would be a bonus.

After about 8 months of searching, and test driving some really crappy 4Runners, I found one in Santa Rosa (I live in SF) that was almost perfect. 2000 Limited 4x4 with RR Diff Lock, Silver with around 200k Miles. But I had to act fast because the seller was getting a ton of interest. I have no idea why the market is so crazy for 4Runners in the Bay Area.

Anyways - you'll find one! And it'll be worth it!

Thanks Scramble. Seems a little high alright...

In your opinion, what are the compelling upgrades in the 99+? The one that I most remember are the cupholders. Yes, I have read and re-visited the 3rd Buyer's Guide over the last few weeks...
