Help: TREs & LBJs Part Numbers and Questions

Read a bunch of threads and ready to pull the trigger.

Understand OEM is the way to go.

1) Better to do TRE's both outer and inner or just outer?

2) OEM Inner TREs are pricy. Can you get buy with OEM outers and aftermarket inner?

3) See a lot of folks just doing LBJs. UBJs critical?

4) is this a good price from Toyota Parts Overstock?

I just did mine a few weeks ago and ordered from toyotapartsoverstock. I paid right around what you did. The ball joints come with castle nuts as do the outer tie rod ends. I was confused by some of the other threads as to whether or not they came with them and ordered extras that I didn't need. Depending on how you feel about it you can either re use the old bolts from your ball joints or buy new ones.

does anyone know the part # for the" lock nut" on the outer tie rod? i have pulled up a parts diagram, but it wasn't shown.

You can use aftermarket Inners with OEM outers. That's what I did too, it started adding up so fast and I figured that the inner was the spot where aftermarket would be safest.

I went with a set of inners from Napa and saved a bundle, I dont remember which ones I got but i think they were the mid grade ones.

As for the ride quality, Mine greatly improved and I also did my steering rack bushings at the same time, so basically all my front end steering and suspension was replaced... kinda hard NOT to improve but that would depend on how worn out your current setup is.

I went with all OEM. I figured OEM parts have lasted for 150k miles, these new OEM parts should last that long too. I did not do my UBJ at this time. The ride quality improved significantly. I had the steering shimmy going on and this reduced it significantly. I also did the steering rack guide update too and that helped even more.
