HELP!! with 95 4runner 4x4

new to the forum, but not new to 4runner. i had a 2wd back in the day, got my 4x4 about a few months back.. i know about SAS but dont know really to much. just by reading some of the post i now know a pretty good idea on what it does . and of course my friends been telling me to go that route. so i guess im confused on what i exactly i need for SAS and how would i get it? any help will do thanks for your time

you will need to find a solid axle from a 85 or older toyota if you want to stay with toyota that is. going price around me is 300$ for a solid axle without steering components.
you will also need the IFS eliminator kit from one of the venders Trail Gear or Low Range Offraod are the most popular. that will set you back about 1,300 for that kit.

you could spend less money if you have time to wait, look for a older pickup or 4runner with a straight axle and buy it for like 800$ then swap the axle and hangers and all that fabrication stuff. youll get at least 300$ back after scrapping the body.

both of these routes are totally dependent on your skills and tools you have. you will need a welder and also you will have to align the axle properly, just a example last time i did a solid axle swap i took 5 hours to make sure my axle was in right and 100% square with the rear axle.

if you dont have a welder and have never aligned axles then you will want to have someone around to help that has. or you could just find a 4x4 shop and shell out the cash to have it done.
 
what do the brackets you guys run on these Yota's look like? i have assisted an SAS on a Chevy and older Ford with TTB axle under it. the popular ORD brackets for full size rigs are nothing more than someone could make with a welder in their garage.

the concept is the same yes but with a kit you get the springs and hangers and steering components to match it all up, the kit is for people who dont have the ability to make the things they need.

if you get springs nad hangers with the kit then that doesnt sound like a too bad deal for just over $1,000
 
The kits are very much worth it if you get a good one like the Trail-Gear one BV mentioned. They provide all brackets, with templates to line them up on the frame; all hangars and springs in your choice of lift height; high-steer conversion kit; shock hoops and Bilstein shocks; extended stainless brake lines--even bracing and armor for the front axle, and a knuckle rebuild kit. It is definitely worth it to go that route. You provide two things, a solid front axle from hub to hub, and a driveshaft.

not really it costs me 1$ in steel to make mine and springs are $350 a pair. like i said people who dont have resources have no choice but to but the kit.
