Help with gears?

I have a 1989 4runner, with stock gears. It has 7 inches of lift on the front (3 body, 4 sus), and 9 on the rear (same, but with 2 inch longer shackles). No sas, still ifs. I was wondering what the best option would be as far as me getting it to drive faster and have more power going up hills. I have 35 inch tires on it, and it lacks power with the newly rebuild 22re. I dont go off road much, and when i do it mainly is just playing in mud or snow. I am thinking from what i have read up, the best fit would be 4 88 gears. I was also thinking about getting an elocker out of a newer 4runner or tacoma, but wasnt sure if the lengths of axles were the same. Can anyone help me out and point me in the right direction?

4.88s for 33s. 5.29s for 35s

Arent 5 29 more of crawler gears? I mainly just want a boost in power, and to regain 5th gear again. 4 88s wouldnt do a good enough job?

i had 5.29 in my old 83 pickup with a built 22r. they worked great with my 34s in town and off road but rev way high going on the freeway.

With 35" tires, 5.29 gears would be right if you have a manual trans. For an auto you'd want 5.71's.

4:10s are a good match for 31s. Therefore, it you get bigger tires you need lower gears.

35s with 5.29s will bring you back to stockish.

And to answer your E locker question, All the 8" thirdmember (4cyl & V6) bolt patterns are the same and the e-locker replaces 3 studs on one side with 4 in different locations as well as a large notch to clear the locking mechanism. It's not that hard to do though, a little grinding, drilling, and tapping.

This guy is putting one in his front axle, but the process is the same.

For 31" tires and a 5 spd you would want 4.56 gears, which is what Toyota used with the 31" factory tire package.
But that doesn't mean you actually have to do a gear swap.
People have been running the stock 4.10 ratio with 33" tires for decades.
Sure there's some loss in power and MPG, but it's something most can deal with.
But 33" is pretty much the limit, taller than that robs a bit too much power.
