Help with Maplight Mod

So I've attempted to do the maplight mod twice now using JA's writeup.
I've double checked everything and still it doesn't work. I first wired it into my running boards light then into the ECU wire like JA did.

I noticed I don't have the blue plug like others do however I can see the female plug when I remove the assembly. Knowing my luck it's probably gonna end up being something stupid like I didn't push the wires enough or something (although they're as far in as they'll go w/o splitting the plastic.

It's been a while since I did this mod, so I can't remember colors off the top of my head. Apologies... But my best guess is that the wires aren't making sufficient contact. I tried to use the blue splice pieces when I did this mod, but I couldn't get enough contact so I ended up cutting and stripping the wires and soldiering it back together. This guaranteed the proper number of volts feeding the map lights to get them to function properly.

Best of luck.

In addition to what 06forerunner mentioned, I use a sharp utility knife carefully and strip about 1/4" off the wire then wrap the wire you want to attach around that section and solder that.

strip the wire like this =======----=======

Yep, give those blue wire taps another good squeeze with a pair of channel locks. I just did the footwell lighting mod and had the same issue. Wasn't getting power, and I squeezed the blue wire tap I used again and it worked!

Vampire taps come in handy from my experience. They provide a reliable, strong tap without splicing. Splicing is always a solid choice though -- as long as you can solder nicely.

you are tapping into a ground wire right? if you touch your wire that you added to any grounded part of the truck it should turn on
