Clear would work just fine as a bra on a car. The only thing about the clear is its not as strong as the other colors. I did some of my emblems in the cold and it didn't like it. Have to wait an hour or two before I could peel it off the paint. I don't know if I have a picture on my thread of before peeling but it would look good and only a little bit matte looking. I would say go for it but do it somewhere worm. It does like cold weather. I think the fact that its clear makes it thinner and harder to peal in one pieceNice title
I seem to recall a member (kevinpt or something like that) that used clear plastidip to matte his chrome emblems. I figure it would have the same "matting" effect on your paint as well.
If you just want added protection, 3M makes a clear film. You can order it in pre-cut pieces here. They're a tad on the expensive side. I've been wanting to order a set for my headlights for a while now. I think I saw them on Weathertechs website.
You can also just buy rolls of the film cheaper and cut to fit.
I know it doesn't really answer your question... Just an alternative to consider. I don't really know about the clear plastidip. I know that the black plastidip I had on my front end held up pretty well. Just not sure how finish would look with clear sprayed over top of it. Also, there is a lot of work involved with plastidipping a front end. Though it might not be as involved as painting. You've still got to mask, spray, cure, layer, unmask, yatta yatta... With a clear film, you should just have to clean it, lay it down and trim. Just some food for thought. Hope it helps.

Just mask off the area and spray it, easy peasy. When it starts to chip, peel it off!
