Help with my ISR Mod

Hey....I would like to do the ISR mod this weekend when I do my tune up...being a newby, I need your advice. I have the stock silencer attached to my MAF...do I cut the intake hose and replace the space with a piece of exhaust tubing?? I have been researching, but have not really got the details I need to pull it off..Thanks for your help/advice...

I'm not sure what you're talking about when saying "cut the intake hose" cause there was no cutting involved for me. It was a matter of taking off the old tube w/ silencers and putting a piece of piping in for the new.
 
Just did this to mine last weekend while doing a tune up. No cutting required. The silencer is just that big black plastic box. That comes out and the piece of exhaust pipe goes in it's place. Very simple mod.
 
If you dont want to spend the $15 for an exhaust pipe to fit, you can duct tape the gap. Just take the vacuum hose off the silencer box and follow the vacuum hose diagram for new hoses. Make sure the gap in the silencer is sealed really well, or else unfiltered air could get in the intake.

Nothing in the pedal, just louder. Honestly, I started out with the deckplate and ran just that for a long time, then decided to do the ISR a few weeks back and it looks cleaner but the noise got to me so I plugged the deckplate and every since I did I've been getting better gas mileage... No idea what the deal is there but the 2 combined seemed like too much for my tastes and it seemed more sluggish but now it's fine.

The only gain from this is throttle response. When you hit the gas, air has to fill the silencer chamber and pressurize before it gets to the engine. Only takes a fraction of a second. But, when you take out the chamber, no more lag, instant throttle.

I did the deckplate first. I noticed more MPG's and a tiny bit more noise. Could have been some power too, hard to tell as it would be minimal.

ISR a month later. Same performance and noise under 2.5k rpm, except for the aforementioned throttle response. above that 2.5k is when the engine throttle noise really roars, I enjoy that, some don't.
 
I just did it. easy, but really dont notice anything. I have not done the deck plate though.

only thing I see is it cleans up the area.

as for duck taping the small gap. not sure about that. what if the tape comes off? lol

so far I could really take it or leave this mod. but I am also on my first tank so I have no #'s to prove any difference.

need a road trip I guess
 
Thanks....I did the deckplate a couple of weeks ago...I have noticed a bit more powa and a bit better gas mileage. I really want to cleanup the area....that maze of !@#$% makes me crazy... So, I think I will do it...My question to you guys is...what do I say to the muffler shop guys??? and, not having looked at the dimensions of the pipe, what are they?? and, do I have to "bell" the ends of the tube?? Thanks!!!!!
 
first, dont go to a chain shop. Go to a local mom n pop muffler store, they are more helpful and not a bunch of stupid know it alls.

Ask for a piece of exhaust pipe that is 5.65" long and 2.5" outer diameter, have them expand the ends to 2.75" outer diameter. Then pay the nice people. should be like $15.
 
i did the deckplate and isr mod a couple months ago, did notice a slight gain of response in the pedal, and freakin love the loudness of wide open throttle, its cheap and easy mod
 
Yeah I just went to a local shop and asked them for the same dimensions as 4-Ripcords. They should be able to do it in 10-15 minutes granted they aren't busy. Cost me 15 as well.

I did the ISR first and noticed a little more noise, but not much. Then I did the deckplate and now the engine roars. I like it, but it could get old on a road trip, so I will probably just put the deckplate in during those trips. I haven't filled up yet, so not sure about the mileage.
