Help with picking HU

So I have been searching now for a few weeks on a new head unit. IMO, too many options out there. So I am trying to scale my decision back to what I really want. Honestly, I have no use for 99% of the features offered. I am leaning towards a single din unit, but not ruling out the double din. I will be adding an amplifier and new speakers at some point, sub is a maybe.

Must haves -
Rear usb and aux
Volume knob
Brightness adjust
Quality sound
CD player

How much are you willing to spend on a new HU? I would check either Crutchfield first then go to Amazon to see if they have the same unit in stock and purchase there for a cheaper price.

I purchased this Kenwood unit on Amazon but unfortunately they no longer sell this unit w/ the speakers. But basically this unit has almost everything you're looking for, single DIN and volume knob. Unfortunately both the USB and aux connections are in the front.

And as far as RCA preouts are concerned, it has 6 4volt preouts, 2 for front speakers, 2 for rear speaker and a sub preout. This will be good for when you decide to upgrade the speakers and get an amp for the speakers. Also I would suggest in purchasing a sub and separate amp. It will make your music sound so much better IMO.

As for a double DIN unit, do you want a touchscreen or are you ok w/ a regular double DIN w/ a volume knob?

If non touchscreen this looks decent, but it still has the USB and aux connections in the front.

If touchscreen, I purchased this for my wife's Sequoia. You can actually turn the screen on/off but still have the radio/cd/ipod/phone connected and still playing music.

Also forgot to mention that w/ the touchscreen unit, it has 6 RCA 4volt preouts. When it's time for you to connect an aftermarket amplifier and speakers, you want to have at least a minimum of 4volts to the RCA preouts to have quality sound. But also that depends on how you treat the doors of your vehicle too. But that's a whole different monster and a lot more money involved.

At absolute most, $200 for the unit. Id give up most features to have one with a higher sound quality. I want the USB / aux connections in the back to hide the wires. My ipod is going to sit in my console; i hate having wires coming out the front.

Hit send to quick.

One of the units I found on Crutchfield is the Kenwood Excelon KDC-501. However upon further research there are some conflicting reviews. Its on my list though.

Ive always had good luck with kenwood, pioneer, and clarion. And tend to lean that way.

Ive gone to crutchfield and put in my wants and it spat out a few options; but only 3 under $200. So thats why I thought id try here and just see if any members had anything similar.

The amp / speakers / sub will come eventually. I use my cargo space all the time, usually with the seats down. So locations for the amp and sub will be crucial for me.

Also try checking out some of the new JVC units. Kenwood recently purchased the company and from what I’m hearing, Kenwood is using the JVC brand as a guinea pig and testing out new things with with their units. And from what I’ve heard, it’s actually better than the Kenwood units.

Its a big improvement even with the OE speakers until i can spend for new speakers...I probably paid $200 for the HU, steering wheel controls and installation. Totally worth it
