Help with replacing front differential seals, gasket, etc.

Hello there! first time poster, I have a 91 4runner, 4 cylinder, 4x4. I notice that the front differential has been leaking pretty bad. I had drained and filled a few weeks ago, drove to see the family which was about a 10 hour drive in total and had to refill the front differential again..

I was hoping someone could help me out with what I actually need. I was checking out Rockauto.com and they seem to have all sorts of stuff..

I'm just confused since there's so much stuff.. I see a full rebuild kit which is crazy expensive, but then I also see a minor repair kit... which is a differential and bearing and seal kit.. like this one..

Why are you looking up parts for a 88 when yours is a 91? (Don't think it makes much difference just a question) and to do that work your taking the diff out of the frame

oops, my mistake, I have an 88 honda crx, which I'm also looking at parts, must of gotten those two mixed up.

Yeah I figure I'd drain the differential completly, disconnect the cv axels and.. well I guess I can figure it out from there, haven't done this before but, this isn't my primary vehicle so I'll have time to do it.

I'm almost half tempted to just drop money on the entire overhaul kit since I'm going to have to take the entire thing out.

You'd have to pay someone to set up the ring and pinion but that's what I would do if I had the cash

Yikes that sounds like a lot of work..do you think I should just replace the gasket to prevent it from leaking? the right side of it, where the right cv axel sounds a little rough when rotating, I figure it was a bearing that was bad, hence why I wanted to take it apart..

You can replace that bearing without pulling the carrier out. It is all going to be a lot of work

Ah okay, so I should replace the bearing that connects to the right cv axle, and the gasket. Should I replace the pinion seal while I"m at it?
