Help with roof rack..plz

my 4Runner is 1 week old...and i'm trying to find a roof rack that looks right on the Limited...I have found tons that look nice on the Trails....

If you have Pictures..post em up...I would like to see what is out there!
If you have any suggestions or comments..post em up...I would like to hear them!

What are you wanting to gain out of the rack? I had the Baja utility rack and it was fantastic. Low profile, really looked great. The Gobi racks are held in high regard as well, but had some shipping issues back then, not sure if they still do.

I would like to use it for things like luggage...(things that can't fit/don't want in the back of the runner...

[MENTION=86948]mikebontoft[/MENTION] : I don't have any real issues with it. But usually my truck isn't shiny when I'm in a location/scenario where I use those lights. When I switch them to a Rigid 40" bar, I'll use some 3M vinyl on the hood and make it mat black.

Remember, most places don't allow you to use any auxiliary lights on public roads that are mounted higher than the factory headlights.

Yeah, I wouldn't use them on road..... except maybe through the canyon as I already use my two hellas for that. But technically you can only have four forward facing lights. The covers make it so they don't count though. I've thought about that or plastidip for part of the hood. I like that rack though, I think I'll try to make one like it.

Depends on if you're looking to do something more modular or permanent. Both the Gobi and the Baja Racks are permanent install. If you are looking at changing it up down the line you may want to consider something more modular like a Yakima LoadWarrior or MegaWarrior or Thule Moab. Since we do get a lot of rain here WA you may want to consider a Roof Box to keep luggage and the like dry while driving around. Yakima and Thule make good versions of both as well. I went with a LoadWarrior w/ Extension on Yakima Whispbar Crossbars for a more modular. Allows me to ability add attachments for various other activities (bike racks, kayak racks, surfboards, SUP, etc.) and the adjustable bar that comes with the extension allows accommodation of any other rack on top of is so there's a little more versatility. Loadwarrior with extension dimensions are 62"L x 39"W x 6"H. It's exactly the length of the silver roof rack siderails so it matches up really nice. Megawarrior gives you some added width than LoadWarrior but with the extension the megawarrior will hang over the sun roof.

Anyway, just wanted to throw my thoughts on it since I went back and forth on this for a while and installed the Loadwarrior w/ extension yesterday. If was looking for more permanent install though I would def go Baja so I can undermount off road lights and still run 14' kayaks and 11' SUP on top. Hope that helps, I can take a pic tomorrow of mine if you like.

i like what you have done with your rig...i dont think ill need the light bar though?

Not a stupid question at all. There is an opening for the sunroof. Gobi does make a removable insert for the roof rack section if you want. Mine is open. I did get the safari ladder which makes it easier to get on the roof.

Were you in a 4R? I didn't see any 5th gens while I was up that way. We are always out in Issaquah, either for Fischer's meets or the farmer's market (in a couple more months, looking forward to that) or hiking in the area.

Is there a reason you mounted the rack to the crossbars? Does it give you extra room?
