Help with roof rack..plz

I swapped out the stock crossbars for aftermarket ones in order to increase weight capacity. Stock crossbars hold a max of 133lbs, the aftermarket ones I put on there hold a max of 165lbs. Basket (according to directions) has a max capacity of 140lbs. Also allows me a wider crossbar base to mount two kayaks side by side if I take off the basket. For me it's all about flexibility and adjusting to whatever I am into at any given time.
 
There are some very cool rack systems out there, but I'm wanting something much more simple. I would love a single aluminum grid that would fit inside/between my factory rack and attach to the factory cross bars. Simply a floor/attachment points. Not a basket, no significant addition to height when empty. Is anyone else feeling me on this? Anyone seen something similar? Am I gonna have to go custom?

Were you in a 4R? I didn't see any 5th gens while I was up that way. We are always out in Issaquah, either for Fischer's meets or the farmer's market (in a couple more months, looking forward to that) or hiking in the area.

Thats too funny, I thought I recognized your photos. Im walking distance from Cafe Ladro, we must have been in there at the same time.

Not sure if you're looking for stock crossbars, but I have a set if you do.

Ha I actually sold my stock ones to another member on here since I got the aftermarket ones.

Thule MOAB basket

So looking at Amazon and found this Thule basket and liked the way it looks.

My only experience with roof racks was when I had the Durango and it had cross bars already installed. The 4Runner does not, so I'm assuming you have to purchase cross bars as well.

Anyone got experience with this? And is my assumption right for most roof racks? I'm looking for something to put on my '12 Blizzard White 4Runner.
