Recently purchase 2005, V6 4x4 4runner Sport. 138K on it. When I purchased it, I had the local toyota dealer in that area look over things. Was told that it would need a tune up, cabin filter, rear transfer case seal. Minor repairs, so I purchased. No problems for the first few days, filled with fuel, cranked back up check engine and VSC trac codes came on, did research on this forum, figured it was the gas cap, reset the computer, etc, Alarm cleared, the next day it came back on. I recently took it to a local independent Toyota repair shop, they replaced plugs, ran fine, next day codes came back on, with a rough idle at cold start for about 30 seconds. Took it back down to the same shop, they asked if the engine had been pressure washed, I'm fairly certain it had. Ran codes, misfire on cylinder 6, installled a new coil pack. Codes cleared, ran fine, next morning cold start, rough idle again, back to the shop. This time Cylinder 5 had misfire, installed a new coil, but kept it as possible back up (as it may not be bad), again no problems. Same situation, cold start, rough idle, codes. Cylinder 2 this time, installed the pressure coil pack from 5 into cylinder 2. Ran like a champ. I have no leakage, oil looks fine, coolant level is holding, no tempature issues.... Currently it is in the shop, they are going to do a cold start this evening... fingures crossed anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks for the help.

Update

Just got off the phone with shop, they suspect now a bad injector? They are switching the injector they suspect is bad with another cylinder to see if the code follows it....

Sounds familiar with the head gasket issues that have been popping up as the 03-05's get more miles on them. Search on here and you'll find a few threads.

Yeah it does in a way. But I dont have any of the symptons.... as far as leakage, milky oil, tempature etc. Its a random mis fire..... Maybe thats just my wishful thinking... Again their switching out injectors tonight, we'll see what happens tomorrow
