gas cap cover?

Hi guys and girls (maybe) I've got a problem, please help. I borrowed my mom's 4runner and it has an automatic cover over the gas cap. It is released by a lever on the driver's side. I am sure yall's do too. Problem is when I put the gas in and tried to close the thing it wouldn't close. I had to force it back closed. And I am sure you have guessed it won't pop back open. Any ideas or is it going to cost me a bundle?

Hi yall, I am a newbie cause the problem is not with my truck, I borrowed my mom's 4runner this weekend and when I put gas in it the last time I couldn 't close the cover to the gas inlet. It popped open fine but when I tried to close it, it just wouldn't shut. Of course dummy me forced it shut. Now it won't pop open! Any help please! :bash:

It'd help if you could tell us what year your truck is. Maybe someone has the FSM for the gas door?

What's that?

I was afraid to pry it open. Remember this is my mom's (she's 70) truck. I was just hoping there was a magic trick one of you guys knew. By the way what is a troll? It doesn't sound like a very nice term. I have a Jeep and those guys have always been very helpful , I have never been called a troll. I thought the Toyota folks would be just as nice. Sorry if I have offended anyone, I will just take it to the dealer and get it fixed.

Yeah that sounds like a plan. You may want to use something that won't mar the finish like a paint stir, plastic ruler etc. You might want to get it fixed ASAP before your Mom runs out of gas

I had just filled it up, so it has a full tank. Anyway this is her "fun" vehicle. She has a "little old lady" Saturn she drives around town.

If you need to use anything metal to help pry it open, you will definitely want to protect the finish. At the very least, cover the metal pry bar with masking tape, then protect the truck finish with a towel or something like that to pad it.
