What do you think I should get?

I put down a deposit today and they are holding two new 4Runners for me until Monday morning, then they need a decision from me.

They are holding a black SR5 with sand beige leather (here at end of month) and a Magnetic grey SR5 with black leather interior (just came in). So, I'm trying to decide which one to get. They are both pretty comparably equipped so I'm not concerned about that.

I like both exteriors pretty equally, but I know the Mag grey would be a little easier to keep up, I actually like that color a little better.

With the interior, I'm afraid that the black may get too hot, but then I'm also afraid that the sand beige leather might stain/soil over time with a dog and kid.

I know ultimately it's my decision, but any input would be appreciated. I don't think I can go wrong with either and the main thing is that either Monday or the end of the month, I'll have a new 4Runner!

thanks!

I had "anthracite" (basically black) leather in my car (without any tinted windows) and it wasn't too hot. My 4R has the black "waterproof" seats and doesn't get hot. I'd go with the mag gray exterior as the primary factor. I have that and it looks great (IMHO obviously).

I would think there are a couple of factors to keep in Mind. 1st do you live on or near a dirt road and or travel on one regularly. If so stay as far away from black as possible I have black silverado and I want to shoot myself every other day when its dirty because it shows up really quickly. We have a Magnetic Grey Limited and yes you can see dirt but no where near as quickly as black, Also when detailing or having it detailed black is by far the hardest to get looking sharp, But when you do there is nothing better than cleaned up black car. Yes the interior will be hot but I think any leather will get hot in the sunlight plus tinting the the windows and getting a sun visor for the windshield would help. this is only my opinion and I would hope you would use it as such good luck with your purchase I'm sure you will love it either way.:reddance:

go with the grey. easier to keep up, as you said. if you lead an active life, you shouldn't have to keep worrying about the finish. I too, would never have a black vehicle.

We own a black Acura. Everyone told me how hard black was to keep clean but it was the only color I liked the vehicle in. WOW what a mistake. We are not "car washing" people and it looks filthy constantly! My first and last black vehicle. This time I went with the Silver. Totally awesome, looks clean all the time. Go with the Mag Grey

I can't imagine taking care of a daily driven black 4R, that would be literally a nightmare.

The mag grey looks similar to my old BMW in sparkling graphite, which was very easy to take care of and looked great even when dirty.

I have a black GX470 with tan leather interior.

Exterior is difficult to keep in pristine shape, so I stopped trying. It gets it's fair share of washes and detailing, but I no longer obsess about the swirl marks, water droplet marks, and dust and dirt from everyday usage. If you'll be Ok with that, then get the black exterior. Otherwise Magnetic Grey is a better choice - all these things are less noticeable.

As far as your concern with beige leather getting soiled and stained... Yes it will. Just like anything else, it will require cleaning and occasional conditioning. I recently found that Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is a god's send for owners of the cars with beige leather. That thing is AWESOME!!! My leather is as clean today as the day I took it from the dealer. And I have a teenager, a toddler, and a dog...

I would stay away from black leather for 2 reasons:

1. It does get hot on the surface, and it keeps your car hotter when sitting outside on the sunny day.

2. Stains. If you think that beige interior can soil, wait till you get the black leather. You will notice cookie crumbs, dog hair, pieces of paper, shreds of plastic wrap, little sparkles from your kid's projects, etc...

IMHO, the black exterior is easier to get along with than black interior.

But, like you said, the choice is YOURS!!! Regardless of which one you'll choose, you will get and awesome truck. Good luck and enjoy your purchase next week.

Just my .02, but I can't stand the beige leather at all (looks cheap), so I'd go with the grey exterior/black interior... and I too, as someone else stated, made the mistake of owning a black vehicle once... never again... if you like your black vehicle to look nice, you'll be constantly washing it- and it shows every scratch/swirl/dust particle known to man.
I've got black leather in my TE and love it... it doesn't get too hot, but I have all my windows tinted too. With kids/dogs/messy people, leather is a must!

:) but the choice is your's.

The two previous trucks Ive owned were black and while they look great, the exterior maintenance is difficult to me. The 2010 4R Limited I have now is MG with black leather and I love it. The leather doesnt get hot, not like I thought it would. I the tint does a good job and the AC kicks, so I cant complain.

Enjoy what you get and congrats!
