Hello guyz, I am looking to buy this

2000 toyota 4runner sr5

He said the motor was replaced with another one with 103k on it. Beside checking all the obvious but is there anything else I should look for in the motor/drivelines? He said he brought it at an auction and found out shortly that the motor was bad. I ran the vin and everything else check out. This model should have an option for an e locker, right? If there is there should be a button by the driver side dash area? Appreciate any input, thanx.

I usually stay away from vehicle purchased at auctions. The big reason why is the shotty work that is done to make them look clean. Unless there is proof of the motor, I would go in assuming it had the mileage posted on the cluster. With the elocker it could have one and it will have a button on the right side by your knee. It will have orange lettering.

Read through this already thanks.

Will do, is the asking price reasonable? There is also a 2000 Limited that I am looking at also, he is asking for a bit more but original everything and well maintained.

Price seems good. You'd have to drive it first.

My way of thinking is thus: if I have a nice car and put in a new motor, I would sell it for more not less. Unless I had my cousin install it in his shed and I pulled the motor off some wrecked car I found in a junk yard. I think if the install is legit and clean it would add to the resale value, not detract from it.

compare the offerings here: Appraise a Used Car at Edmunds.com

I like to shoot for something between wholesale and private seller prices. Main thing to take care of is the 'strawberry milkshake' potential, see this: any body ever crack-opened up OEM rad, if not, here we go! - YotaTech Forums Just spend about $35 on a tranny cooler, leave your radiator alone and cap in/out lines of factory tranny cooler (at bottom of engine radiator). Check out ebay too, the prices are even lower than craiglist to make up for an then some on the transportation. Good luck! :thumb3:

Yeah, I was reading up on the milkshake stuff....good to know, thanks. Now, how do I test to see if the E locker are in good working order when I go for a test drive? Take it off road on a test drive?

1999+ Limited
Black/Tan
Auto
No rusts
200k
No E lockers :moping:

thanks everyone, I pickup a 99+ Limited yesterday. The PO took the radio now I don't have any music.
The door UNLOCK with fob/switch fine, but it will not LOCK. When I press the lock button, same thing, will not LOCK. anyone know y? I read it could be the block/module at driver knee bolster area?
Brake light is on, im thinking it's a sensor on the parking brake?
Do these have dealer alarm or keyless entry only?

Alrite, here are some pics. Have not washed her yet, but I was able to fix the lock/unlock issues. This will be my base for Urban/Camping vehicle. :)

Driver seats are trashed. What can I replace it with other than stock?
I saw the TB sticker was done @ 140k now its at 200k and I hope it will last another 200k. Guess it's time to do maintenances and WP/TB and replace all the fluids too. Most of you running external trans cooler or replaced the rad every 60k?
I loving the 3rd gen so far, much better than my 2nd gen.

i'll get some pics tonite

Alrite, pi
