I'm sure they could be added via aftermarket but it would most likely ratchet the cost up significantly. My guess is that there aren't many players in that game (both heated and cooled) aside from OEM and it would be pricey to do it with OEM parts.

Yes, the mod I am describing in my post retained the heated seats as well. The OEM buttons were swapped with dual action click buttons. One side controls heat, the other venting. It's the best of both worlds plus my new leather seat covers match the old SofTex ones almost exactly, aside from being more comfortable and perforated leather.
They are not air conditioned, there is no cooling. It’s a fan that moves air to ventilate through th seat. I’m not sure on the 4Runner specifically but most manufactures nowadays have moved away from blowing air out of the seats are are actually using suction to pull air IN through the seat covers (pulls heat away from the seating surface) and blows it out the bottom rear of the seats.
Mine definitely blow cool...I'm not sure how or where they get the air from but I frequently get out of the car with my crotch feeling quite chilly.

I currently use the Viotek seat cooling thingy, its just ok. I've thought about getting some LE ventilated seats recovered and replace the current seats. Haven't checked cost but I have a feeling it be astronomical.
No they don’t, there is no cooling element.

I think this thread title is misleading. It just seems like others coming across this aren’t being told up front that all this discussion is ultimately about fans in the seat, period. I happy for anyone that’s adding this to their 4Runner and gets good results with it. But am concerned about giving confusing ideas about what it truly is. Bottom line: “cooled seats” doesn’t equate to “air conditioned seats”. IIRC the seats are described by Toyota only as “ventilated”.

It is 100% factual that the LE seats are not fed a/c air directly. But as most will attest, they may as well be. If you're running the a/c, the fan picks up very cool air and blows that through the seat. Maybe because cool air falls, or maybe you need to have the floor vents on, I've never tested.
What I can say for sure is, it takes some time getting adjusted to the foreign sensation. I'd describe it like feeling as though you've sat on something wet. The part I find annoying is how loud the air is coming through the holes on full blast.

Every vehicle I have owned from Audi to Toyota Ive been able to hear the AC in the seats. After a while I stop noticing it. Not feeling sweaty and uncomfortable in the heat, priceless.

Really the leather seat being installed is irrelevant. Each company has its own leather they sell but the kit that is installed is the same. Here is another company.

I tried the Viotek v1 and really hated it. It was very uncomfortable especially on long trips. I bought he Viotek v2 and thought it was only marginally more comfy. They did work pretty well though
